Ok, for the last 8 or 9 hours I've been bangin my head against the wall in hopes that it would help my PC start this friggin thing!.. I did as instructed (to the letter) everything Creative's lousy instructions said. All went well till the very end of the s/ware install, where the registration stuff came on and the setup prog hung. On manual restart,...............NADA. The WDM Audio drv is where it's supposed to be (audio dev./hardware) with a "cannot start error (code 10)" On vol tab, "no audio device". Now, I completely removed any and all traces of Creative, pulled card, did a boot/reboot replaced the card and just tried a driver install.....NADA! Anyone got any ideas?

My pute wouldn't give up...So I'm back to A97? I think. Anyone have any hints where or what I should use to record my guitar work? Thx

Reformat and try again?

Is there any Creative driver cleaner software like there is for other stuff?

Honestly, reformat. I find that as soon as Windows bitches about not being able to start devices (it's not specific to your Audigy 2 hardware, it can happen with anything), I just clean out the computer. I hate IRQ conflicts. I thought they said they got rid of them with XP :p

But anyway, I find that a clean start with all your components in helps windows re-organize the system resources better, so that conflicts are easier avoided.

Install Linux. the drivers for the Audigy are great for it since they're not written by Creative :D

Thanx for the advice all. I figured if it took me 6 hours to get me where I was, then there'd be nothing but trouble. It's only a low end PC; Duron 1.14GHz on a PCCHIPS sh** board.
I'd like a little input as to what I should upgrade to. Keeping in mind I prefer AMD. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask that, I will redirect my queery. Thank you for your time folks. :D

it is more about knowing your INT# assingment, and installing accordingly. diy ignorance is the main cause of installation issues. e.g. the audigy1 is a INT#B for it has 1394, and sound logic on the periph. use the manual provided to find the appropiate INT#B slot, and install into it. bios options are very important. ones such as ACPI, and APIC. mainly ACPI for it is plug and play with power management.

I'll still play a fuckin guitar around you all day.. It requires more than 0's and 1's
Be a little nicer and don't ever talk to me like that again. Any problems, my email's available

WTF you on about?

WTF you on about?
i think he is thinking that i was being condescending, which i was not. i think this world had a comprehension problem. ignorance means not educated, lacking knowledge, unaware. now, if i was to state you are asinine, which means your an ass, or did a stupid thing, then reply post would make sense. work on your comprehension, and knowledge of the pc!

Hey, I apoligize for my atitude, it had been a long day and I completely misread his answer. He's totally right and I sit, stand and lay corrected.

the only way i could ever fix audigy install issues was to format  but i never tried driver cleaner so maybe you should give that a shot first.

no need to apologize, but thank you!

honestly, as long as i have had sound cards, i never had an issue with them. i found it odd when many bitched about creative labs. although, there is some truth to it, e.g. their drivers can be more unified. i dont find them all true. i have had various core logics amd, via, nvidia, intel, and not a problem with sb compatibles, sb awe32, vortex2, sblive, and audigy1 over the years. reminds me how many said, that western digitals drives have issues when set to master, and are the drive on the channel. i explained to them-read the manual there is no issue. still, to this day, i see western being blamed for somebody not reading the manual, and people thinking it is an issue intrinsic to western digital hard drives.

give a fill description of the pc. slots, periphs, etc. it can help the cause for getting it to enumerate. one helpful pointer, is there a web site of the motherboard manual? so, other may look at its attributes.

Thnx for your reply,
You seem to be quite addept with computers and sound and whatnot, maybe you could guide me to a sound card that I could lay guitar tracks down with, keeping in mind latency.

AMD Duron 1.14GHz
2 open PCI
256 DDR2100
Gforce4000 64M

Not much to work with.(will take suggestions there also)
Don't have a very big budget..
Whadda you think?

You should list the Mortherboard's make or model. Knowing the Chipset is very important. Also the Duron doesn't support APIC so if it is endabled, disable it. ALso disable BIOS shadowing and PCI snoop of any kind. Also unlocked PCI BUS while overclocking (1.14 is not a stock speed) is a no no!

More than likely your problem has NOTHING to do with Creative but more to do with Troublesome Hardware. I've installed too many to count Audigy 1, 2, and 2 ZS plus OEM/Value and Platinum versions of them all. The drivers on the Audigy 1 are the weakest, the other two have better drivers than many other cards out there IMHO! This includes M-Audio, nForce, AC97-AD or Realtech. The better the rest of the system is, the better these cards work, that's why many folks with VIA motherboards had problems.

The biggest problem I've seen here on this forum when it comes to Creative Labs is misinformation.

donnie, is on point. as for recommending a sound card that would be good, i am not the one to ask for i have no knowledge of it post and even pre-sound production. i woudl liek to knwo though! i do know that there are a multitude of sound cards that are used, some even made by creative such as this: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=315065&pfp=SEARCH

maybe, this can give some isight? one problem with what you want to do, if you want games to have eax, you will have to use a supporting card for all the "professional" sound cards will not support such. omeomi13013, with memory at such a low cost, maybe you should upgrade to 1GB. i think this would be an awesome upgrade for what you want to do. this is a good recommendation: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-21&ps=ho1 i am using this memory, and so far have been very pleased with it.

Sorry we started on wrong foot, (you know who you are), I'll check into both the card and memory upgrade. Would like to start from ground up though. Any ideas on a middle of the road, higher end than I have PC for around 300-500 bucks? Or would I be better off putting one together? Thnx again :D
