Hunter Misconception

Am I the only one that has noticed how many misconceptions there are in WoW about hunters because of a few bad players?

Some common misconceptions:

1) We aren't good in instances - The truth is the exact opposite. We are the pullers. Much more effective that warriors will ever be because of our traps, aimed shots, and ability to wipe ourselves off the aggro tree (feign death).

2) Our pets are a hassle in instances - Just because some idiots don't know how to switch between aggressive and passive in an instance doesn't mean we should have our pets away any time we go into an instance.

3) We are fragile and worthless in melee - Find a hunter who specs survival, and you have a great melee fighter. We can use some of the highest dps weapons (polearms, 2h axes), and Aspect of the Monkey helps us dodge more than anything else. Once we hit 40 and are able to use mail armor, we can even be substitute tanks should the need arise.

4) We draw too much aggro - This is one of our specialties commonly taken to be an annoyance because of hunters who do not do it right. Some just go into an instance and multishot everything. Multishot is only good for pulling multiple lower level mobs, or for use once the aggro tree has been firmly established. We are also better than anything else save warriors for pulling a mob off another player by using distracting shot.

I play a hunter (lvl 44 currently) on Bloodhoof and I agree completely with what you stated above. People who dont know how to use there abilities or pets are the people that give us hunters the bad rep.

In the WoW forums there is actually a guide to hunters being useful in instances.(

Guide)

Read up on it and the different ways to spec a hunter before you ever bash someone for not knowing what they are doing.

cheers.

I agree also. I've done exactly the same things you state. I did WC 2x, with my pet out the entire time, and he was only on passive. My pets are ALWAYS on passive as I'm usually trying to just sneak past stuff, and with an aggro pet, that doesn't work.

I also only multishot when multiple things are aggroing, that only makes sense.

I have a 50 hunter and a 45 rogue. Never had someone say "wow, glad we had a hunter", but they have said "wow, glad we have a rogue" and i felt awesome.

but that's besides the point. other classes have MUCH better pulling options. mages poly is a great puller, rogue sap is iffy, but still better, warlock seduce, etc., are all better methods of pulling, because it effectively removes one enemy from the whole battle until you decide to bring it back. our traps break with damage, can only be layed out of combat, and last for a very short amount of time. but my DPS does pwn. 1500 aimed shots really pull aggro, and 450+ autoshot crits don't help much either. i find myself using disengage/feign death a lot to lose aggro.

but for now, i'll be playing my rogue a lot. he's much more fun to play.

so, this is coming from a hunter: yes, i have uses in an instance, but no, i am not required and/or a large asset to the group. i can't heal, tank, cc, pull better than anyone else, etc. if the warrior pulls, aggro goes to the warrior. you pull, aggro goes to you. who do you want to have aggro? i'll let you decide.

Shadowbane/Solaran
50 Hunter /45 Rogue
Blackhand

I don't hate Hunters, I don't love them. In honesty, I'd probably rather have a warlock, but Hunters do just fine. I'd rather have them than another warrior...

What the fuck are you talking about?? i didn't understand a word.. lol.. then again.. i don't play WOW...

show me an instance/raid without one tank/warrior and i'll show you a futile attempt. however, if you're talking about simply aggroing, then i can maybe see, but even then, any ranged can do that.

Level 51 Warrior.. I know its pathetic these days but I was near the top during the initial rush then RL kicked in.

1. You should never be pulling. If your pulling somethings wrong. This is just in general there can be a situation where a Hunter pull is neccessary. Why should a hunter pull? I whip out my gun and they can still hit your trap, yet they all have agro onto me which I need.

2. Pets can be good and bad. I like their ability to offtank but sometimes gets annoying when im trying to do my job the pet takes agro due to it spamming taunt.

3. If your tanking, your sucking of priests mana like crazy and being a detriment. Anybody can substitute as a tank, but does that mean its working that well.

4. Actually its a myriad of things. Multishot is just one of the things hunters dont realize. Even their single target DPS is so high it can get annoying if they go all out, much less if they decide they wanna attack the mob im not attacking and offtank. Then I have to go run after the mob and taunt it back onto me.

Bottom line is any class can be crap if played wrong. I used to think druids sucked hard untill a friend of mine grouped up with me and substituted for our priest. He owned hard I thought and totally changed my idea about druids. Same with every class. You ever run into a mage that doesnt have the common sense to poly. Ever run into one that thinks he should just sit back and AOE....

True, but I can do a high damage pull and then take myself off the aggro tree, or be far enough back (with range improvements) for the warrior to pull the aggro off by the time th mob gets within melee range.

I never meant as the main tank. If the warrior/pally who was taking the brunt of the damage dies, wouldn't you rather have a mail wearer hold the mob off until the main tank can be rezzed, or would you rather a leather or cloth wearer do that? (True that Horde shaman can wear mail, but I play Alliance so I've never instanced with one)

I have nothing against Hunters at all. I am a LVL 28 MS warrier and sometimes it is nice to have a hunter pull agro off you if you are playing in a group and the healers run out of mana.

I have seen good and bad players in all classes, so it is more of "who can play their class"

I have had people TELL me to tank with a shield, but I gain agro faster and do more dps with a 2 hander and that is how I want to play.
