So I put together a graphics design system today

I noticed the price of the Quadro FX 1400 in it was reasonably priced at $500cdn

So I installed HL2

And it sure looks nice (better colour than my 6800GT, by far - shadows and details are far more rich)

Silky smooth at 1280x1024 everything set to full, reflect all, 8xaf, 4xaa

(no stuttering either)

and it was only $50 more than my 6800GT

It's part of a very cool dual xeon system

(sure sucked having to drill and tap the processor mounting holes)

Then I installed Doom 3 and it ran very nicely as well

I think my next video card will be a Quadro

Anybody else running a Quadro?

for what Im doing its great, got it a little over a year ago, was about $1300 as I recall

can u run some benchies and screen shots of that rich color? I'd love to see it.

3dmark01: 15531
3dmark03: 7790
3dmark05: 2956

For some reason it was super laggy (like 1-3fps) in the cpu tests in 03 and 05. don't know if this is normal or not

these images are 1280x1024 so if you're on dialup don't look at this thread.

By the way the monitor i am using is an acer 1715.

Isn't the Quadro FX 1400 the same as a GeForce FX 5200?

What DX mode is HL2 running on that card?

with these workstation cards, what really makes them so different with respects to image quality and such?

Thanks for the benchies and the pics. They look good to me.

Maybe because they don't use optimizations (like angle dependent AF) or any shortcuts at all? It could also be doing everything in full 32bit (no 16 or 24). I dunno.

man...they look EXACTLY the same as on my 6600GT.......colour quality and richness is exactly the same...do you know why? Because Geforces and Quadros are the same chips....except quadros have some professional features enabled (eg. hardware OpenGl for CAD )

Largely optimized drivers for CAD & 3D aps

would CAD users really see a difference using their little counterpart chipsets?

One thing that I know of is hardware based AA which is pretty damn cool IMO.

yes, you do. i've had a lot of systems at our office, and, as soon as we could afford better hardware, we made the jump to CAD grafic-cards. we had everything in our boxes - gforces, fireGLs, wilcats and quadros. it does make one hell of a diffrerence when you work with maya (which is the only thing i can judge, really). no artefacts for one :D and performance is *way* better in the viewports, which is definitely a lot less annoying when working with large scenes. add to that hardware rendering and high quality shading and you'd never go back.

Is it possible to mod a regular gaming card into a quadro and still get the same quality? Like some people are doing? Some people have been showing it being done with simple bios flashes, but i'm not sure if they sell quadros 3x more than a regular card just for a different bios.

i doubt it's based off of 5950U for a few reasons

1. DX9.0
2. it's faster than my 6800GT

though the fx label confuses me a bit

oh also suggest some benchmarks please beyond 3dmark, i have to give this system back tuesday morning

having dual 3.4ghz xeons sure is fun... i might install suse to see what 64-bit feels like... prolly the same eh?

1.) The only FX series card that HL2 will run DX9 on is the 5900 series.
2.) Theres something wrong with your 6800GT then.

I seriously dout that is based on the 5950U. The 3dmark05 score is WAY to high. I have a 5900XT running *near* (460/908) 5950 clocks (475/950) and I only get ~1200ish. Consult the almight 3dmark05 list and see for yourself.

dang, 425mb. my isp is already angry about my bandwidth usage (150gb+). lucky me i am upgrading to 2.5mbit server access with no blocked ports (21, 25, 53, 80 are right now) next month

mmm, spaghetti squash!

whats ur frame rate at in hl2 with max settings? net_graph 2 in console to enable it.

The lowest I have seen is 29 when outside and running around and smashing stuff

Indoors it does 85 pretty steady

Not too bad i must say with 4xaa!

Quadro is based of the NV38GL
0.13 Micron
135 Million
1.5

The micro-architecture of the NV38 will be similar to that of the GeForce FX 5900 with only minor possible improvements in order to slightly boost the performance, push the core-clocks up.

So basically its a 5950

(according to GPU comparison at Rojak website.)

Which seems a bit odd since PNY is SLI ready. I thought FX didn't do SLI.

Weirdly the Quadro Go 1400 is based on the 6800 Core (acording to Rojaks website)

I think there might have been a misprint or something cause its just a bit weird IMO.

I think that your link is the exact card because it is assembled and warranted by HP (as we all know nvidia only makes reference cards for oems)
