How fast is your internet?

Acutally, doesn't matter if it is Cable or DSL, if someone gets pwnd by a virus and is generating lame amounts of useless data it can crap out a whole lot of connections (I work for the DSL company, happens until we cap the conversations to a min). I'm sure it happens to the cable companies too.

If you're capped at 4Mbps at your cable modem and your local segment can handle many times that amount of traffic, then the odds of your connection jacking everyone else up is minimal. It's kind of like thinking a 10mb connection could flood a switch that has a 10Gb backplane. Ain't gonna happen.

Heh, that's what I thought too. I'm not sure on what exactly happens, I'm just the frontline guy that listens to what the Network guys say ;-)

Brighthouse Roadrunner $34.95
Speakeasy speed test:

4447kbs down
351 up

I'm thinking about going Fiber with Verizon. 39.95 for 5mb/2mb, or 49.95 for 15mb/2mb.
I just wish verizon as a company and dsl service didn't suck balls.

In the middle of Northern New Brunswick here... not many options.... no cable...

Right now I am on wireless service that is using a T1 as a backbone... I am getting roughly 1200-1300 down and 350-400 up. I can get DSL(just came 3 weeks ago) 3mb down and 500k up, but it's almost $160 cndn/ month... :eek: (it does come with static IP and 15 email addys though)

SBC/Yahoo DSL - $29.95/mo for the 1.5-3.0Mbps down/384-512Kbps
up package. Pretty slick deal for the cost.

I typically get 2.5 down/424 kbps up.

YAHOOOOOOOOO!

733.5K/97.1K Verizon

Pittsburgh, PA on a 20Kfeet line from the base station. I pay the same as the 1.5Mbps people though *sigh*

A T3 is ~27 Mb/s. 3.0/1.2 falls quite a bit short of that.

I'm sorry man... but unless you are getting like THIRTY, and not THREE MB/sec, you are nowhere NEAR a T3.

I WAS getting a 3MB/s downstream, but Shaw recently upped it to 5MB/s :eek: my upload is ~600KB/s.

Ah, the joys of dial-up.

The download speed seems fairly accurate, though the upload speed is way off. In actually, it's about the same speed as downloads.

Edited for stupidity: I checked again....I do have T3 (See Below)

some of you people need to get your damn Bits and Bytes strait!

Kb = Kilobit
KB = Kilobyte
Mb = Megabit
MB = Megabyte

typical cable (if you are not getting these speeds you are getting ripped off)

350KB/s = 2800 Kb/s = ~3Mb (kilobyte/sec) down
65KB/s = 520Kb/s (kilobyte/sec) up

Shaw cable (shaw recently upgraded everyone in calgary, and no im not advertising shaw)

650KB/s down = ~5Mb down
100KB/s up = 800Kb up

Shaw cable extreme (upgrade package, 10 bux/mo more for 2 more Mb aint bad)

896KB = ~7Mb down
150KB = ~1Mb up

a T3 line is 5.592MB/s (MEGABYTE/SEC) you are not anywhere close to a T3

oh and mine :)
