Last year, during the winter, when the temp outside would be somewhere between -10F and 0F, I had something similar hooked up a couple times (I even had fans inside of it). Nothing like a processor at about 5F at full load. :p

my receiver finally came in :)

the sound out of that setup is AWESOME. now i just need to save up for a sub :(

what is all that cardboard doing, and did u steal ur roommate's desk? if u even have one.

It's a vent from the window, I'm assuming it's uber-cold outside or something... Can't be too good for the PCB though :\

I don't know how you guys can stand lcd monitors!! I bought one and when I used it too do my programming assignments I'd get dizzy in less than a minute!

wow. i can't stand reading text on crt's anymore. the flicker drives me insane. i use my newfound second monitor for various things that i don't have to read (pictures, movies, ect)

infiniti029: my roomie left. he didn't like the college. so now i have a single. and i can mess with the room temps without anyone getting mad at me! it rocks.

i know how that is. note the fan plugs. one 120mm fan blowing down right over my heatsink and a pci blower blowing near the intake of the video card. definitly kept things cool enough.
sadly though i got a second monitor (maybe not so sadly, it was free after all)
so now my setup looks a bit different. i'm gonna have to find a way to re-route all that cardboard! hehehe
DSCF1171.JPG

(note that i still have a bit of cardboard. that's to prevent the rear fan from recirculating)

EDIT!

all right. i fugured out the solution on how to cool off my rig nicely again. it's actually already working without having to put too much on (just a bit of cardboard to redirect the exhaust)
expect an update again when i've regonfigured all that cardboard
(and damn, i wish i had some white spraypaint or something)

new-setup.JPG

all right. i needed a new post because the old one had too many pictures in it. here goes :D
(i'm at 31c full load right now.. was 39-41c at idle before i put it on)

before everything went together, sometime late last night.

and the duct down to the heatsink to ensure colder air this time

and now the finished product

finished-2.JPG

and that's 18.9c exhuast air. the psu heats it up a lot though... if i'm feeling creative later, i'll draw a diagram of how air flows through it if anyone wants to know. :p

haha, all right. give me some time though...

edit:
here we go. sorry about the crappyness. i didn't feel like trying to make a 3d model in CAD, so i quickly drew some lines. cold = blue, warm = green, hot = red. ;)
hopefully it makes.. a little bit of sense. the cold air goes in the front fan, and the duct to the heatsink. hard drives/video card warm up the front air, and the heatsink makes the duct air hot. then it goes out the back and around the side and out to the thermometer.

lol! LMAO! those pics reminded me of when my friend ran out of speaker wire for his car... so he tore apart a telephone cord and used the 2 strands as speakerwire... to top it all off he used the coily part. ghhheeetttttoooo.. :p You should put a bumper sticker on the vent.. or do a window and add cathode behind it! :D

i hope this thread doesnt die! college students are the most resourceful people in the world. we have to be...since most of the time, we dont have any resources....

In light of this post.....BUMP!

dude, thats amazing. if you get an LCD ever, your setup would be unstable. you might need that CRT to keep that piece of wood weighted down :)

nice. though for the lcd/crt comment, he can probably prop the wood up on the heater somewhat. it'll definitly help.
i'm liking that lanboy, but you need to put a sticker in the front. it looks too plain :(

or you can do what i did: annoy the shit out of your roommate with crazy overclocking experiments and end up getting a single so you can steal the extra desk!! :D

no need for crazy experiments. just play celine dion really loud out of your nice nice speakers. you'll have a single in no time.

Yeah, that's why I'm sticking with the CRT. I bought it off my dad for $100, it's a 21". It's great when you get up right next to it in the corner :) That and it's so heavy there's no chance of it getting off balance, lol.

Right, I have made changes to the computer/desk since I've taken that picture, one of which was adding the case badge. As for the single, I'm already a step ahead of you ;). The program I am in requires the use of a school laptop, so that's what I've got set on the other side.

LOL

(this was just an expirement after I saw the news thing on the main page showing pictures like this :) It's not my normal desktop, I just had it up long enough for the picture.)

hahaha, ew. loud techno owns all

here's some new pics for you guys.. sadly it's not really cold out anymore, so the cardboard doesn't serve much purpose except that duct for the video card. keeps load temps down by about 5-10c

and what it looks like outside, just for kicks.

(note that if the pics go down, i've gone over my bandwidth limit.. i'm actually at 556mb of 500 allowed :()

me too! :D
i'm currently working on a black dfi box to put my computer in.. i still need to figure out what to do with the drives and whatnot though... but to do that, i needed some stuff from my case

linked to save bandwidth :(

the "my desk broke last night and i caught my new imac before it broke and i made a new desk out of plywood" setup.

its really nice to have on my ibook, keeps gunk out of the keys, protects from minor liquid spills, quiets the typing. I have one on order for my imac as well.

what part of connecticut are you from, and why did you blur out one licence plate and not the other?
