I plan on buying a shuttle in a couple months and I am going to use it to lan so I would be just putting my cpu and components from my desktop into it. I have an AMD 64 3200+ socket 754 so these are the only 2 choice of shuttles I have. The problem with the SN85G4v3 is that it has that memory card read in the front which I dont need at all and would rather put a hard drive in there which I guess I still could or a floppy which I dont know if I could mod that to some how fit it in. The thing with the SK83G is that it has integrated video which I dont need either and I guess could be disabled.
My question is that is there any performace increase in the SN85G4v3 since its newer and also how does it run for gaming. Does it overheat or do you need to run it with the cover off?
Thanks

Well friend of mine have had SN85G4 and He have had problems with BIOS chip!!???
Like it died  Then He read somewhere on local Forum that 80% of People with that revision have had allready same thing. Like affter few months BIOS chip dies.
Well other then that it was good PC.
On other hand all M chipsets of Via are made as compromise with integrated grafics. They aren't realy preformers and normaly doo not OC. Like any KTxxx chipset outpreformes KMxxx easyly. Hence I wouldn't take that one. Also if I'm not wrong SK83G has 80 mili ICE/FAN combo and SN85G4 has 92 mili resulting in more cooling power and it makes it also quiet.

When it allready must be 754 XPC then I gues SN85G4 is better. Just take care that You gett newest version. (V3 or higher)

Why don't You sell CPU and take Winchester CPU and or SN95G5 or SN25P?

I have an SK83G and mine runs fine. The temperature gauges or whatever don't read the temps accurately however so if you are really intent on knowing your temp at all times than that could be a problem but I think of it as one less thing to worry about and if it gets too hot and overheats I can always send it back for another one.

I am pretty sure that the memory card reader can be taken out and a floppy drive put in with no modding and I am also sure that you can take it out and put a HD in there but I am not sure if there is an extra faceplace that comes with the other shuttle. Personallly I think that the SK83G looks better also.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen or heard of anything about removing the memory card reader and using a floppy instead. If you have a link to somwhere that explains this please post it. Thanks

I enjoy my SK83G.
...but having a 92mm fan instead of 80mm would be nice.

Does the SK83G use that heat pipe? Looks like you have a regular headsink is there. How are you getting that to work?

It uses the ICE Heatpipe set up.
The only thing you see through the mesh in my pic is the vid card/vid card cooler.

Besides shuttle what other options do I have for SFF socket 754. It would mostly be used for gaming so thats what I am looking for not a media SFF.
