What cooling are you using for that, jikdoc? Vapo LS?

I'm using a Vapo XEII for mine, and I'm getting the impression that the XEII struggles to remove all the heat from an overclocked FX55 at higher voltages. I'm not going to go out and buy an LS though!

Hopefully the san-diego core won't put out as much heat as the 130nm FX55, and I'll be able to compete with the guys who have the more hardcore cooling :p At the moment it seems, from looking round, that I'm only getting clocks midway between those of guys on water, and those using a LS / MachII GT.
Set your heaters to 30% or 20% and fans to 100% when benching with high vcore. Set it up to default for regular use to prevent condensation. Hope this will help.
Edit: same components as yours...got 3.44Ghz... short benched stable (aquamark3/sandra) and 3.40G on 3D'01 withLS evap. temp. at -48C load.

cent, have you ever thought about getting your Vapo modded at all....or is it? I honestly can't remember.

Thanks for the tips :)

I don't think that this is a great clocking CPU tbh. It just doesn't seem to respond to higher voltage at all. 1.6v performs the same as 1.85v... pretty crazy. It did 2.8Ghz on air, which isn't too bad, but it didn't respond much to voltage then either.

I've got my eye out for another chip. Snakebiteuk35 is actually selling his system (FX55 included), and if he splits I might go for that one ;)

As for the vapochill control panel - I can't adjust any settings. At all. Nada.

I've posted a thread on the vapochill forums, but surprisingly enough no-one replies. I've installed the software over 3 different motherboards, with various other hardware bits and bobs over the last 2 months, but it's always the same. I can't alter any of the settings (they just don't change after pressing 'apply'), the panel is really un-responsive to my commands anyway (takes several seconds to update the sliders after I move them). Also, the evaporator temperature doesn't dynaically update. It gives me abelievable temperature when I start it up, but it will stick there whatever I do. Say I run a benchmark - it stays dead still, until I close it and immediately open it up again - then it'll give me the 'right' temperature again (say 5 - 8 C higher) and just sit there until I repeat.

A bit annoying really... not even any way to see for sure what settings it's on... I've shorted the jumpers to put it to default, but I don't really know what these settings are!

Mine is week42 and mounted with vapo (after tested boot on neo2) right out of the box. Never really booted with stock/air or ran stock. 24/7 at 12x250...
Did you try fresh install windows? Mine did the same thing (usb2 not working) and fresh install cured it :)
Edit: really cold ambient temp. here in NY. really help my vapo...

For now (cold winter in NY) its still ok. I probly will mod it this coming summer :D

Yup - i'ts had several formats (at least 5) over 3 different motherboards and 2 different CPUs (I had a 3000+ under this thing for a week or so. Couldn't do any more than on air though, as the motherboard was holding the chip back even on air).

mine is 39m55s

'Grats on making the list....really gives me hope for when I get my Ultra-D and 3200+ up and running with my GSkill that should be here any day now. :)

Thanks. Hopefully you get a good CBBHD CPU. My CBBHD 3000+ kicked the snot out of my CBBID 3500+. Played EQ2 ll day at 3ghz w/o out a problem so I'm going to keep working on my SuperPi scores. I can also run 3Dmark2001 at 3ghz, but since I have a 6800GT I won't be posting in your other thread. It may be time to take a look at getting a x850PE. ;)

Feels like I crashed an exclusive party for FX-55s. Quick Cornelious! Post the changes so I can get a screen shot before the bouncers and security arrive! :D

LOL!

pwned :(

edit - that's some pretty hardcore memory you've got there... what is it?!

My G.Skill LE will only go to about 315 or 320 max with those timings! :(

On THAT topic....my 2x256MB GSkill LA PC4800 got here today.....but I can't pick it up 'till tomorrow now.....one step closer to going for 9,000MB/s in Sandra.....can't wait 'till I get that DFI. ;)

Would love to get some GSkill LA or LE. I have to use a 9/10 divider so my OCZ Platinum rev.2 TCCD is only running a little over 300. Don't know why CPUZ isn't picking up on that. I need to test some BH-5 and that Twinmos SP before I buy more TCCD. :)

Hopefully I have some good luck with my GSkill....I'm gonna be throwing the 3200+ on h2O...so as long as I get a decent chip, hopefully I can leave the multiplier fairly high and clear 300 HTT for some sick MB/s and SuperPi results.

Hope it works out for ya. My buddy has the same setup w/ the MSI board.

Those 90nm chips i had a while back OC'ed great, but i didn't really gain much by going with water at all. Like maybe 100-200 Mhz. But it does make it run cooler at least. Interested in seeing how it turns out for you.

Well that 100-200MHz is more then worth it for me, along with the cool factor from having my h2O running again there's not a lot of thinking to do on my part, just gotta get the stuff. :)

i like your CPU temps

i think that probe is somewhat wrong

Smartguardian doesn't output temperatures below 0C.

It will read a value until the core temp drops to zero, and then output 250C

Thanks, I won't be here very much as my current established residence is at xtremepccentral.com but I like some of the resources here and I ever need a quick reply I'm sure this is the place to come as there are oodles of members. >=)~

yeah, what matters is that there's something you can always take away from either forum. [H] is actually becoming more of a case modding forum then anything else.....as MOST people recognize (and for good reason) XtremeSystems as the OC/cooling forum to check out.....which is where I spend time checkin' out the recent WR's and such. ;)

I think I need some help with Super Pi & pipatch. I downloaded the files and ran Super Pi . Then I put the unarchived pipatch file in the directory and ran it again. The results were almost identical. I think I am missing something simple here because both times were only a couple of seconds differance.

Weird thing is, with the A64 pipatch on my AMD chip, it is easy to see that it is patched, the header is different. With my Prescott chip, I can't see any kind of differance in times or window headers. Used the same methods on both files.

Any tips or suggestions before I post my times?

what is the deal with the prescott patch? its a 15 file of some sort, so how does one actually patch the program and does the patch make it faster or slower to calculate?

Slacky, extract the patched and unpatched versions of SuperPi in different folders to ensure you see the difference in times.....if you're talking about 1M then you might only see a few seconds...but if you're doing 32M then it WILL be more then 2 or 3 seconds difference if done properly.

BossNoodleKaboodle, the Prescott patch essentially uses some of it's extra extensions to speed up the Pi calculation.....and so many people no longer consider SuperPi a valid benchmark......as there are now "patches" for both AMD and Intel that effect their scores in different ways, and take away any way of calling SuperPi an "apples to apples" test, which it used to be.

Bro, I know that once you clear 3.6GHz or so the Pressies start pulling ahead, but considering there are 4 and 4.1GHz Prescotts outdoing you be a considerable amount and you're running at 4.4GHz...I'd say that there still might be some work to do, the Preshotts aren't THAT much faster.

Ok, figured out Pipatch with everyone's help and a HEX editor. I use WinRAR. It renames the unzipped file automatically. Problem was, it was zipped twice. The second nested archive was never identified as a zip file.

I'm a happy camper. After tweaking for the past weak with a new water system, I've boosted my cruising speed up to 4.42ghz with no thermal throttling. Thats better than I was able to do with air cooling and a furnace blower which got me to 4.2 maxed out with some minor throttling due to heat.

Pipatch Super Pi - 24:01 @ 4.42ghz

Super Pi - 25:41 @ 4.42ghz

I've been playing with 4.5ghz but I have voltage issues with my AS8 motherboard at that speed after a few minutes. I even tried putting the radiator in an ICE bath but that really didn't help too much either. I'm debating trying to mod it...

Thx bro.....makes me wanna ALLLLmost think twice about going AMD with this latest build.....a 560J or 570J h2O setup would be really nice, and then when I could afford the Vapo it'd be some real fun.

Same here! Those are some great times.

Ok, I'm going to have to label my times as unofficial until I get my screenshots sent to a computer that has net access, here are the "unofficial times" which should get me 10th place on the Intel list:

Unpatched: 27min 37sec

Patched: 25min 43sec

Stats on the runs:
  • P4 3.2E ES s478 @ 4172mhz
  • P4C800-E unmodded :(
  • 260.8FSB at 1:1 ratio
  • Mem timings 2.5-3-3-7
I'm waiting for my Max3 mobo to come back and thought I'd have some fun with the pressie.
