Canadians, where did you buy your senn's?

How'd they sound, and how'd they fit on your head? I heard that pinch after awhile.

I've only burned them in for about 15 hours so far but they sound really nice. Much less shrill and harsh than my pmx60's. I did an a/b with the 60's and my ears were sore after listening to the 60's where as the 497's sound much smoother. I have a large head and they fit fine, they were a little tight at first but after about 15 minutes i just forget they are there.

Sorry to hijack but my headphones just died (HD455) and I need some new ones. I'm thinking of either HD270 ($175) or HD280 Pro ($125) at minidisc-canada.com. Has anybody had any experience with either of these? I like the folding earpieces and coiled cable of the 280 but it seems too cheap at just $125.

hmm also looking at HD500 ($135). What a great price eh?

edit: geez these ones look nice. 32 ohms too. i wonder what "semi open" means, i've never owned headphones that were "semi open." maybe it means open headphones in a circumaural design?

280's are supposed to be great if you need closed. Although most of the time i hear people recommend an amp for them so if you don't have a problem making one or buying one, i think a mint will do just fine, then they are supposed to really improve with one.
I've never actually read anything on the 270's so I can't make any comments. The 500's aren't supposed to be that great but I've never heard them.
What kind of music do you listen to?

mainly old stuff, 60s-70s. I'm considering the 500s over the other two because they're 32 ohms, I can use them with my pda. I do have amps at home but I use speakers for those. I really only use headphones when i'm outside or gaming (i prefer headphones over speakers in that case - though i have quadraphonic speakers it's hard to locate something in space - with headphones it's easier)

Thanks for the update Stinn. I'm awaiting Price Match on my HD 497's.

All that's left is to find a Shure dealer in Canada. The pair I just got are from the states and customs was a real bitch to get through.

Got this from the Head-Fi forum, or somewhere else (forgot actually)

http://www.marcopolo.ca/

Sells Shures via Ebay. I never tried though, but will pretty soon (figuring out if I want the e2c, e3c, or the Etys 6i).

Hope that helps.

Edit: if you order from it, please leave out your impressions on the price/quality/service

i still think you should skip the 500's, i've never owned them but i've never heard anything good about em.
what are you going to power them with?

i thought you didn't price match?
I know the 497's are classified as supra-aural but they fit around my ears and rest on my head which makes them much more comfy i think, just as an update on the comfortability of them.

I have a Pioneer SA-8100 for music listening and a Noresco Model 2870 (rebadged Rotel) plugged into my computer. Music on the move is from a Toshiba e830.

Comparing with Sony stuff it looks like I can get higher-end stuff for cheaper. Looking at Sony MDR-CD380, MDR-V500DJ and some talk about them, they're equal or superior headphones at a similar price.

edit: enough thread hijacking, if you want to help me out pm me. i'll probably spend a little more money and get 570s anyway.

My order didn't go through for some reason with my Credit Card, so when NCIX credited back my Credit Card I replaced my order through Direct Deposit and price-matched to Minidisc.

:D

All caps warning:

HOLY SHIT STINN!!!

You are from Moose Jaw too? I didn't think people from Moose Jaw even knew how to use the internet! Where abouts do you live in the big MJ? I live on South Hill by WestMount school. I simply can't believe that another soul on this planet from MJ would be so [H]!

Sorry, I'm just so damn surprised.

I think you'll be happier with the 570s. If you can find a place in CDN that sells beyers look into those as well.
http://www.headphonereviews.org/
that site has some good info on it.

Edit: my first choice was going to be the HD555's, if you can find them they will probably suit ya well. They are supposed to be relatively easy to drive, for cheaper you can go with the 515's.

Westmount School resides on Currie Crescent, which is just off of Vaughn Street and Duffield Street. Vaughn and Duffield are interesected by 9th and are relatively close to the road that leads out to the Base.

So, you live near Edmonton Street and Grace Street then? Just off of 9th?

alright, i know where currie cres is. I live on edmonton st actually.

I've got the HD 555's and I am able to drive them off a portable discman but they were lacking in the bass department. Oh and by the way i live in Weyburn, SK.

I'm ressurecting this thread to re-ask the original question.... where can I find Sennheiser HD555 in Canada? I really want these cans. :)

I've found them at a couple of US-based online stores that ship to Canada, but I want to avoid that border hassle if possible. The cheapest of them was X10.com, but they seem to be rather shady with their spamming schemes and all. The other one is eCost, which is good because they use BorderFree, but their price on the 555 is among the highest I found.

If I could find these in Canada that would be great. I wish NCIX would carry them.

I bought my HD477's at Futureshop about a year ago. I did get price gouged a bit, but I didn't have to pay shipping haha.

If you're looking for HD555's, the best bet is to find a local high quality sound equipment retailer and see if they can do a specil order for you. If you don't live in a large urban center, or cannot make a trip to one easily, then the best bet is to buy from www.jandr.net.

Their prices are in American, but they are pretty reasonible and they ship to Canada too. Also, they have a very wide selection of Sennheiser products, so you're sure to get exactly what you want.

HD555's aren't available in canada from everything i've read so far. I actually got a pair from paxonator who replaced them with the 650's. I drove out to his place and listened to the 650's too, man are they nice. Compared to the 497's...well there isn't a comparison. Now I'm just going to get a small amp to help clean it up a bit, along with the av-710 i ordered.

I almost bought the 497, but I had to re-evaluate their merits. I'm afraid they might leak too much sound, other than home use, they'll be with me when I study at the library and school. You think the leakage is a problem?
Also Sennheiser released the 465 and 485 last month, but I've seen no reviews on them yet.

the 497's do leak alot of sound, of course depending on how loud your music is. Maybe you should go with some canalphones.
