Interested in pursuing networking, infosec and or databasing as a career, need help

I think I would like to pursue one or more of these areas as a career field. I have yet to decide exactly what I want to do about the schooling part, and plus it would be nice to get to know what I like before I start going to school. So is there anything I can start doing here at home to help me get to know these areas and learn more about them?

I just recently got a small home network setup, it only consists of 2 computers though, they are connected via a Linksys router, and both share my HSI connection. Any good sites to check out, programs to try, books to read, stuff like that?
 
I am currently studying for my CCNA and found that the Sybex books are great! Maybe look into the books made by them to whatever perks your interest :)
