What is the most quiet video card that you can buy that is also one of the faster video cards?

well you can change the heatsinks on most GPU's cant you? I mean to effectively make any gpu you wish quiet, or quieter

X850XTPE is the fastest stand alone Videocard with a very very quiet cooler.

Except when it boots up, and sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

If you're going Nvida, and want power and quiet, take a look at the leadtek series of cards. They're damn quiet. If, by quiet, you mean lacks a fan, I remember that someone on the forums recently mentioned that gigabyte has some new cards in the 6x00 line that lack a fan and are passively cooled. I haven't looked into that myself yet, however, so take that with a grain of salt...

the gigabyte ones SUCK, the ledtecks are KICK @$$!! Holy shit those things are massive! but awesome.

Well I didnt know somepeople couldnt stand for 5 seconds of loudness. Overall the card never gets loud during game play/operation.

As was already stated, No card stock off the market these days is Really quite? But with the help of something like a silencer or heatpipe solution. Your sound worrys are over ;) As for most powerful? Well thats all up to the users tastes these days? Oh and the color you like? Green or red are pretty popular i hear lmao :p

Funny that, never though a gfx card at boot went towards the power
 I must be looking at the wrong things.... :D

x850xtpe is like $750.
get a leadtek 6800gt $350-$400.
this has a very quiet huge copper heatsink.
or get a 6800gt from anyone and replace it with an nv4 cooler.
f

Gigabyte has a passive cooled 6600GT and 6800 Vanilla. They also have a 6800GT with the same cooler and a fan on it and it looks like they're going to use the same heatsink on some of thier X800 series cards as well. You can't get anything quieter then a passively cooled video card. ;)

The ATI cards that come equipped with the VGA Silencer are the quietest around.

While I would also agree that the X850XT and PE versions are very quiet and fast, these are also only available in PCI-e form right now, so unless he wants to also change out his motherboard, an aftermarket HSF solution or a different nVidia card are still going to be the best bet.

The X850XT-PE is the most powerful video card around.

As far as quiet goes, all cards are equal since all noise comes from the cooling solution, and you can buy essentially the same low or no-noise solutions for all cards.

So the answer is an X850XT-PE with an after-market low-noise cooling solution.

You can find the X850XT on Newegg for 500 and Easily OC to XTPE with the stock cooler.
Personaly if you go PCIe get the X850XT if you go AGP get the X800XT or 6800u.

X800XTPE AGP is the quietest card (unaudible with normal use) and not thát much slower than X850. ;)

An X850 XT OC'd to its max on a liquid cooling solution. It will be the fastest single card, way cooler then an air cooled card, and wont make a sound. Gotta have quiet liquid cooling however. This is exactly what I have done with mine, still waiting for volt mods on the PCI-E version (Do they make a PCI-E X850 XT PT?)

Arnt all X850XT-PEs PCI-E?

I'd get an X850XT, a nice Water cooling setup (even if all your cooling is the card), OC that bastard and Presto! Fastest and quietest card.

Note that video cards chosen have to meet the prereqs of the thread: They be the quietest and most powerful....quietest means a video card without a fan. I won't disagree; the leadteks are incredibly quiet, but I can hear my leadtek, I wouldn't be able to hear a gigabyte that lacked a fan entirely.

Im running a Leadtek 6800Nu and the cooler is "silent" (I can't hear it over my 55gallon fishtank).
