What was your first video card?

Mine was a Canopus Pure 3D. It went in my pentium 133 mhz. All I remember about it is that it allowed transparent-like water effects in quake, which was the shiznit cuz you could then snipe people underwater in the ORIGINAL team fortress. Boo yah.

I believe mine was a Trident 2 Meg (Is it even 2 meg? I think thats what Win95 said it was) ISA card from my 486dx2 system.

My first card (not counting onboard junk) was a Radeon 7000 PCI. Then I upgraded to a GF4 MX440 PCI, then I was finally able to upgrade my motherboard and it had AGP, so a friend of mine gave me a Radeon 9000 Pro. Then I traded a crappy palm pilot for a GF4 TI4600, using that now, its a beast :p

Well, my first card was the Cirrus Logic (forget the chipset) 1MB that was onboard the 486 packard bell my parents gave me when I was a kid.

Perhaps more interesting, the first semi-decent video card I ever bought was a ATI Xpert 98, I think.. It was a 16MB Rage128 based card. Up until this point I had just been using shitty S3 and Trident based cards - actually being able to run UT with opengl was freaking astounding :-P.

Sigh, those were the days :-P

My first card (after a SIS integrated video) was an MSI GF3. It's been so long that I don't recall anything more than the brand and what series it came from.. :p

my first card (after the integrated SiS 6536) was The hercules terminator 2X-i (i think) using the intel 740 chip i think... LOL it let me play age of empires 2 and the Original Unreal Tournament of my 233 mhz comp.

An ATi Rage 3D 2 MB back in February 1996. My first REAL 3D card was a 3DFX Voodoo 1 purchased in October of 1997 or thereabouts. Man, playing Quake 1 using Glide was awesome (at the time). :D

My first vid card was a ATI Rage chip with 2mb ram on the motherboard (first VIAO sony home pc 200mhz pentium.) My first "3D" addon card was the original voodoo card that used a pass thru cable from the "2D" card. This would run Quake 2 at 14 fps 640x480...

s3 virge 4 meg. it was my first 3d accelerator, quickly augmented with a voodoo2 then a voodoo3.

first: built-in on a tandy TL/2. VGA graphics = state of the ART
second, S3 Trio64
then I threw in a monster3d - ooooh shit.

My first video was something on a 486/DX66, but I don't remember it. Then I got a Matrox Millenium 4MB PCI card, then I got a Diamond Monster 3D 4MB and I was totally blown away. I haven't felt that good about a video card since then. Being able to see all that 3D was just awesome.

Lyquist

My first video card was a matrox G200 16mg.. and then I added dual Voodoo2 SLI on top of it. 600$ worth of video cards. Played the hell out of quake II on it :D

Cant remember that far back....but I dont think it even had a meg on it......

First card...

Hmm some Cirrus Logic card in a 486 i bought, can't remember mem or number but i think 5200 or something like that. That computer never worked right.

Voodoo 1 4MB Mac Edition

came bundled with the mac version of quake, mechwarrior 2, and some really crappy demos :)

$275 o_O

Don't remember the first video card, but here's the 3D accelerator cards I've had:

Intergraph Voodoo1 6mb - Looped back into the existing VGA card in my Packard Bell 233mhz and came with Turok, Motoracer, and Longbow 2. I remember being completely blown away by them as I'd never even seen 3D graphics with textures and such up until then. Needless to say, I've been addicted in some capacity ever since. Sold it to a buddy eventually.

Creative Labs Voodoo2 12mb - My Golden Age for video cards I suppose. I bought it originally to play Quake2 at better framerates and it delivered in spades. Played games from Jedi Knight to Quake3 and Counter-Strike on it. Good times. It's still running great on my old retrogaming box to this day.

Voodoo5 64mb PCI - Picked it up because I was a 3dfx fan and I was stuck with a POS AGP-less E-machines at the time. It held me over for a few years playing Counter-Strike and a few other games. Sold it to a buddy later on, though.

OEM GeForce4 TI4600 128mb - This was my first leap into the world of Nvidia and I haven't looked back since (RIP 3dfx..) I was able to kick extensive amounts of ass in everything from Dungeon Siege to GTA3 to Morrowind to Jedi Knight 2 and beyond. Sadly it died while I was taking it out to remove some ram modules (Epox 8RDA+ layout, what can I say..) not too long ago. Great card that also was my first introduction into Nvidia's Linux drivers and it lasted me about 2.5 years.

PNY/Verto(?) GeForce 6800NU 128mb - Picked it up to run after my TI4600 died an unceremoniously premature death and it ran Doom3 well enough on high settings. I tried to unlock the pipes, but I got barely noticeable artifacts and that was enough for me to put it back to its stock settings. Performed great afterwards (no artifacts), but it's still sitting in my room until I can possibly sell it or find another use for it. I've never sold anything online so I don't have any heatware or ratings, so whatever.

PNY/Verto GeForce 6600GT 128mb PCI-E - Grabbed it after I'd put together my A8N-SLI rig and was still waiting for my BFG 6800GT PCI-E to be in stock and shipped to me. Good card as it ran Doom3 and other games at high settings, but luckily my BFG card was in stock and shipped within a week and I was able to ditch it.

BFG GeForce 6800GT 256mb PCI-E - My current card and it's definitely my baby for the time being. No matter what I throw at it, it takes it smiling and keeps chugging along beautifully. Now to wait for it to become sluggish and pair it up with an identical twin.

Voodoo 1

Man going from software to a Voodoo 1in Quake was so amazing, there has not been that big a differance in 3d sense!
I think it was made by Diamond

The First Video card that was Handed Down to me was a RIVA TNT 2.

The First Video Card I Bought was a GeForce 3Ti200. Mmm...MOHAA....

well technically the First card I ever had was my dads old voodoo 4 (or 3) sli setup. I was like 5 or 6 or something, so I cant remember well.

My first card (that was actually mine) was a Radeon 32MB (I dunno which type it was)

next came an Geforce 4 mx 4400SE

soon to come will be dual 6600GTs

(The SLI Loop)

first was an onboard on same black and white apple i dont remember,my actual first card was a gf2mx400 followed by a ti4600 then a 9200se(not downgradeing jus a diff computer) now im about to get a 6800gt

Trident 2MB 2D card.

Then I got a Diamond Monster add on card that added another 2 MB and gave it 3D capabilities.

Voodoo2; seems like later I had two of them configured together like the sli but it was so long ago I really don't remember specifics.

Well, other than the "onboard video solutions" rendered by tty only mode computers such as my heath kit, or what was in my commodore 64... My first "discrete" video card was a western digital paradise, with a whopping 512K of video memory, on an 8 bit [half length] ISA card.
