fun with a webcam

i was going through some old junk and stumbled onto an old webcam (it's an old 3com homeconnect usb webcam).
anyway, i'm looking for some ideas on how to put it to good use(if there are any).
i don't do any web-cam-chat or anything so please don't suggest that. also, please refrain from suggesting anything sexual or perverted. thank you.
 
good idea but i live in a decent neighborhood :) also, the computer that this camera will be connected to is in my room and the usb cable is only 3 feet long.
okay, any more ideas? i'm looking for some fun and/or practical ideas.
 
weather cam
watch-plant-grow-cam
dog-doo-doo turning white cam
ice-melt-cam


If yer not worried about security, Erm, the uses go to the obscure realm... :D
 
Mod it to a remote control car and wireless transmitter! Then the possibilities are endless!

As a internet monitoring system, so you can see your apartment/house when you are away...
 
Move your computer in to your bedroom....... The rest is kind of self explanitory.....

Sell the movies on ebay and make some cash :p
 
Aim it at the TV while you play a movie, and have a mike recording at the same time... Then combine the sound and video files, and sell THAT on eBay.
 
I see the radio controlled car idea and raise a radio controlled airplane...
 
Radio controlled car is a badass idea. Either that or a radio controlled by bayou buggy you could float up and down teh river.

This gives me another idea. Mod the cam into the head of a motorized stuffed animal, or maybe one of those dogs that can walk. That way the babysitter takes no notice, and maybe not even the kids.
 
no, i don't have kids. if i did, the nanny cam would be a terrific idea.

i like the watch a plant grow idea and the remote control car seems fun too but how does one use a wired camera with a remote controlled car?

say, anyone ever record themselves sleeping? i always wondered what happened when i woke up in the morning all turned around. when i was younger i remember waking up on the floor... (wouldn't hitting the floor wake one up?)

That is what I am going to do when I get my webcam. I use to sleepwalk when I was younger (even peeing in my own shoes once---don't ask) , but that has stopped (the peeing in odd places too) so I would like to find out how I end up with my head at the bottom of the bed almost every morning. Seriously, it is starting to freak me out. :(

Heh, some people sleep through anything, one time my sis woke up early to go to school and forgot to turn the alarm off, it was one of those HUGE loud house alarms with all the sirens and stuff, i slept right through it :p
 
I used to do that web came thing infront of the tv and broadcast it to my friends.
 
How about putting it in you'r computer soo people can get live status of you'r computer. :D
 
Ooh! i got an idea, you could setup a webcam webpage, if you have any hosting or w/e that is, have it look at your monitor and auto refresh every 5 seconds, so we can see the leetness that is you ;)

rofls.. actually i think the hardest part of making a security camera out of a webcam is getting the right software, so anyone know what software is good for this and more importantly takes advantage of motion sensing?

I feel your pain, kindof. I want to find out what I always talk about in my sleep. The guys would try to record it but they're too slow. I have a mission now. Stay strong brother, we can't all be crazy.
 
Shit sleep walking is nothing, my wife would have night terrors and flip out :eek:

She was going to punch me out while I was sleeping once, she was sleeping over at my place and everyone woke up wondering what the hell was going on...
