I have been looking for a job in Networking or help desk or whatever but everywhere i look like monster, dice etc., they want people with years of experience and/or experience in Unix or novell or something i don't have experience in..I am just finnishing up with my mcse class and so far got my MCP and A+. I hear people my age or younger on this board saying they have this job maintaining a network for this place or something to that effect and others don't have any certs or degrees. I know the market for these jobs is in the shitter right now but there has to be places looking for people. I just want to get my foot in the door and gain experience. where are good places to look? Should i just start going to businesses and hand them my resume?; which really sucks now cuz i don't have real world experience other than interning at a pc repair place. help me out any suggestions or know that the place u work at is looking for someone? I live in Boca raton, fl and willing to travel :(

A lot of the time it is just knowing people. Just try to network as much as possible.

I dont know what the market is in Florida, but up here in Wisconsin if you have no real job experience you pretty much have 2 choices. Get a job at a helpdesk making minimum wage and get your experience that way, or get a job working for an IT outsourcing company that hires out consultants making minimum wage and get some experience that way. When you are first starting out, take any job you can get that is even remotely in the IT field, and always keep looking for a new or better spot, is the best advice i can give.

I have a few certs:

A+
Net+
MCP
Linux+
RIM Blackberry Certified

and have been working as a Advaned Network Support agent for Cingular Wireless for 5 years. I go to Dice, Monster, all the other ones and there is shit available in FL. Right now there is nothing open and I don't know what else will happen.

Maybe things will change in March when I get my CCNA. :(

Whereabouts in Florida are you guys? I'm in SLOWcala, have 26 years in computers, last 12 in systems manager positions, and it took me a year to find a job in this UFO abductee town!

Tampa, Orlando, Daytona, J-Ville are where the jobs are around me. Too much of a drive.

Man, that's a tough job. I used to talk to the ANS guys fairly frequently when we would have an external customer call in. From what I have heard, it was a pain in the ass trying to troubleshoot problems that often had to do with a customer's IT resources outside of the wireless world, particularly when it came to BES stuff. I worked on the internal IT helpdesk on the "blue" side of the fence for about 1.5 years.
