It needs to have a bios revision of 1.3 or higher, and I have 1.0. Anyone have any info on this? Who do I call at MSI? Do I have to pay for the new BIOS chip? I tried calling tech support all day but it was busy. I was all excited to get this stuff working today, I was playing with it for like 3 hours and then found a thread on the Anandtech forums about it.

just flash the BIOS with the newer version...instructions are on the website..no need for tech support or new hardware

I read somewhere that if you use only 1 stick of ram, it would boot with the oldest bio.

How's he going to flash the BIOS without a working processor? The system won't post without one.

lol, flashing would make it easy but...it doesnt post, doesnt do anything, just a blank screen.

well I just got in touch wiht MIS's tech support and theyre sending me the new BIOS chip for free.

well I'll check that out in a little while and update the post, I dont believe it to work though.

Curious... Where'd you order your board from that came v1.0 and how long ago? Just ordered one myself and hoping this doesn't happen.

This is why I bitched about the Winchester launch...

that, and Abit charged me $25 to update my bios. Fuckers.

MSI is awsome about that, they sent me the heatsinks that cover the mosfets on the K7N2 series mobos......I got 8, and put them on my videocard.......9800 pro, old school, MSI is now sending me a free io template for a new board........I love them.

Just put the new BIOS chip in and its still doing the same thing....any ideas?

alright well I'm a jacka$$. My oldschoolness was at fault and I didnt plug the 4pin square power connector onto the board...heh at least it works now

lol...i''ve done that before. monarchcomputer has a pretty good deal going on. they have the cpu/mobo combo that they will pretest (guarantee to work) and flash with latest bios at no extra charge. also, you get a copy of far cry(dvd), 4 months of napster, and a coupon for half-life 2....can't beat that!!!!! the msi neo2 plat and an amd +3200 (winchester) is cheaper than newegg and no tax if you live in ca like i do.

that is a pretty nice deal. I wish I had known before hand...oh well next time

Did they overnight the chip to you? I just called them and requested the replacement BIOS also. Was hoping to have it tomorrow and judging by your post, you received it overnight... maybe I'm dreaming =)

I just finished putting me new rig together and the mobo I got from Mwave has the 1.03 BIOS so I'm good.

Hey Gh0st, a suggestion. If MSI has an in Windows BIOS flasher, then I'd do a hot swap on the BIOS chip and flash the old chip to the latest BIOS. That way you'll have a backup. Otherwise I'd recommend a BIOS Savior.

They wanted to ship it ground, but I offered to pay for overnight. I needed it before I went back to school. Ground would have taken forever.

I built an AMD 64 system yesterday using a K8T Neo2 and a winchester 3000.

It would not boot with more than 256mb ram in it. From reading here previously, I realized that I needed the latest bios. So, I loaded up the machine with windows XP pro, and got to downloading the bios. All is well since.

All I can say, I fucking hated on chip memory controllers yesterday.

Even though I got windows xp installed, it took for fucking ever, and then crashed every 5 mins or so.

Thank God I was able to flash the bios.

You can do it, it's a risk but, you can do it. Or you can get a BIOS Savior. After installing the BIOS Savior per instructions with your new chip. Shut down and install the old chip on the BIOS Savior. Then restart using the BIOS Savior side, switch over to the old chip and flash it.
