I just looked at MSI's website and noticed that it doesn't list the A64 3000+ in it's "supported" list...

Is this still the case or is that fixed now with a BIOS flash or something? I don't see why a 90nm socket 939 3000+ wouldn't work but a 90nm socket 939 3500+ would.

Most of the time they only list the faster processor to give you the "ceiling." As in all below this one with the same socket work. Make sure you aren't getting the K8N Neo socket 754 confused with the K8N Neo2 socket 939 board though. There are two different A64 3000+ processors now, 754 and 939.

I just checked Monarch's website and they show it as a valid option for the combination you want. I just bought the MSI K8N Neo2 Plat also, it is a very nice board. There is one bug in the BIOS versions though. Don't push <ENTER> on the selection for choosing the HT multiplier. If you do, you will lock up the board. Instead, just use the up and down page buttons to select your multiplier. Also, I think the 1.41 beta BIOS lets you run just a little bit faster than the 1.33 version.

Alright, thanks...just wanting to make sure since I just bought this chip and mobo combo. :p

I've seen it say the ceiling before, but usually it says "supporting up to 4000+" or something like that. But on MSI's website it says, "Supports 3500+, 3800+ Athlon 64FX 53, or higher CPU".

I don't know, confusing wording to me.

Thanks for the advise, though, guys.

Just make sure the BIOS on the board gets flashed for the newer 90nm CPUs because thats a bitch to do yourself (finding a 130nm cpu is the hardest part, so you can flash the BIOS.)

It is a non issue for the neo2. Most places are shipping the 1.2 bios which has support for 90nm. If it isn't shipping 1.2, just boot the board with 1 stick fo ram and flash it.
