World of Warcraft is live.

believe those people .. if you have a life wow is really bad for you .. i played stress test 1, fileplanet subscriber beta and open beta .. the days i played i got almost nothing done at my site/with atitool/in rl .. yeah i'm addicted .. i will get it again

Thanks Noid, I almost bought EQ2 before but then i heard about WoW that changed my mind. I love the warcraft series so i guess this is what i've got to try. I will look into this when i get a time.

pvp = player versus player (everbody of the opposing faction can attack you)
pve = player versus environment (you can only be pvp'd when you enter a pvp mode by entering /pvp)

i think there are slightly more pve servers than pvp servers .. pve = more newbie friendly ..

From what I understand the PVP on a PVE server will take place on a "battleground" type area or arena. PVE is more for people that want to explore and quest as opposed to PVP which is all about getting to level 60 as fast as possible so you can demolish people. Not saying you can't quest and explore in PVP, but there are contested lands in PVP where you are fair game for a ganking. In PVE there are no contested lands.

is PvP mode a little more gentle than other online RPGs? By that I mean if I get way up there in levels and have property and such and I'm not online to defend it, will it still be mine next time I get in the game?

i like the demolish part :) in open beta i made it to level 38 on test 4, the most popular pvp server. in peak times trying to do quests in some contested zones is almost impossible becuase of all the ganking.

Dont forget to mention that battlegrounds have not been added to the game yet ... and PVP is all screwed up anyway.

i wouldnt say screwed up .. more like unfinished .. and i bet battleground will be in before most people get level 60

WoW went live last night so if you have your copy already, give it a go!

I will be logging in at lunch and starting the road to divorce by this evening. :)
The road to divorce. thats excellent. :D

I must admit... I played eve, and it literally was all I could do to do work instead of play. I have played the open beta of WoW and its going to be the same... I will constantly be thinking about it and playing it, and it shall interrupt my schoolwork...

God I need to graduate, this place is killing me... killing me....

I was a seasoned "hardcore" FFXI junkie until I retired my 40DRG/30THF/15WAR..etc. It was addicting I might add. My only problem was that when I got to Crawlers Nest it became harder and harder to get into parties. I put my account on disabled for a couple months, came back tried to get into it again and would spend HOURS!!!! just trying to get into a party. I eventually quit do to the time it took to play the game. My only rant is that the only way to lvl was to be in a pt, and it would take at least ~2+hrs avg (that's if the pt stayed together) to gain a lvl.

I was wondering if WoW would be the same way. Would you be able to play maybe 10hrs/wk and still be able to make it to the higher ranks? The game looks awesome and I am a hardcore WC:FT player.

For those that have played both FF and now WoW, can WoW be a game where you don't have to spend 10+ hrs a day to make it somewhere like FF. I was at my local Fry's and they had TONs of CE still available. I was about to buy it but didn't because I wanted more info on it. So could anyone give feedback as to the play style, lvling, etc on WoW. Hopefully it's a MMORPG that I could casually play and not be behind if I didn't spend 10hrs/day playing it. Thanks!

i didn't really think about having the 4 day weekend to play....i might have to snag this and play it all weekend. i was in both stress tests/open beta and i really enjoyed the game. i was undead for a while on the last day of the 2nd stress test and they seemed to not be finished, at least not compared to the dwarfs and night elves i had been before. i really liked the game but didn't get to play it long enough to make a decent level char. i think i'm gonna grab it and see how it is after the first month, hopefully i can get some sale off it at work on friday. i get my 15% off for sure i guess, hopefully we have some sweet promotions going on for that day in addition. i really am looking forward to getting higher levels in the game, highest i got was around 15-20 range. i want to get mounts and some helmets hehe.

i think my first char will be a dwarven hunter.

WOW is what made me to decide to build a computer of my own. I downloaded the Open Beta and was sucked in immediately. Then, in my geeky excitement, I made the mistake of introducing the game to my older brother. He's always been a sci-fi guy and never really cared for fantasy games/books/movies/etc. but after I showed the basics he was sucked in too.

Even though I'd sometimes play for four hours straight, I always resented having to turn the computer over to him for his turn. That's when I decided, enough is enough, I'm getting my own computer and having this game all to myself!

It's taking all my willpower not go out and buy the game yet. With the end of the semester less than three weeks away I can't afford any distractions; my classes are all borderline and are going to require all of my attention to get decent grades. I've got to hold out.

It's awesome, I was playing today for a few hours and got to level 5, but did alot of traveling just to look at everything. It actually played descent on my FX5500. Although I did get kicked out while on the Zepplin and had to wait in que of 175people (20minutes) and the game crashed 15minutes later. I guess the player load.

I've only played DAOC (just a little) but, is PVP the samething that was in DAOC. Where you were safe behind the gated cities and if you went outside the gates, you were open to whatever? Plus you battled for territory and castles...etc..?
So, in a PVE environment you won't have that? Just an arena to challenge? Sorry..still a MMO noob... :)

But, also read somewhere on WOW's website that PVE's will eventually be turned into PVP servers (could have misread though).

Nah, PVE servers will never turn to PvP. That would upset the community. They'll implement battlegrounds for PvE, similar to DAoC's frontiers.

I'm getting quite frustrated with the queue lines on the PVP servers. A few friends and I all wanted to play on the same server, but with 400+ queue lines it was a real pain in the ass. So i'm playing a PVE server for now. Just stopped for the night with a level 7 Orc Shaman...named Bishibosh after the Diablo II guy in cold plains :-p.

Well, it makes sense if you think about it. All new players have to start in the same location; if you have too many players in a certain location it lags the whole server so they've had to put a cap on the numbers allowed until the people level up and disperse. This is of course, to be expected because this is the first day of its launch. I predict that in a week or two at the most, queues will be a thing of the past.

to blasterboy... if your still looking... the most populated server (guild-wise) will be Archimond on Central. There's a big list of what guild is going where at one of these two links, I'm not sure which is more current.

http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php/Guilds
http://ts.afraidyet.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1079

Take a peek there if you have a specific guild in mind, or if you just wanna see where the action's at :D

edit: heh, after logging in, I see that bliz has put up a message telling people to use pacific and mountian realms... just an indicator of where everyone's going.

so, who else has played it for 12 hours straight too? the lag just started to hit too =-/

bye bye world for the next few months.

Dunno what happened, but I'm really pissed. It says Pacific and Central servers need a reboot and they'll be back up in 30 min. I'm on an Eastern server and they haven't said shit :|

words from a true addict, 3 am and people are pissed off that the servers need a reboot lol.. isn't 3 am the best them for them to do it? lol i bought my ce yesterday and have yet to play though so I'll be just where your at in a few days, no doubt :p

Yeah, the servers are having some serious issues. The queues last night were annoying, and the lag that hit around 2:30 EST was terrible. But at least it got me to finally go to bed.

I think I was playing around that time last night (or morning) - all the NPCs starting disappearing...

The lag storm got me killed several times in a cave and then the server went down without me able to get my corpse back. Hope all is okay when I log back in.

But it's true.. the only reason I went to bed last night is because the pacific servers went down..

I logged in this morning and everything seemed ok. They must've rebooted the server because I was not at my original spot when I logged in. Hopefully things smooth out for the holidays!

This is a great reason why I campaigned against the release date, which was forced by vivendi, on the WoW boards and was continually flammed for it. The game is not in the state it should be. This does not meet the usual blizzard standards.

Their is no excuse to be paying for a game which they are still having problems running. Let alone paying a monthly fee on top of the starting cost. If the servers are not stable and their are still problems with the game it obviously was not ready for release.

I Know everyones going to flame and say every MMORPG patches at the start and has problems to fix. This may be true but it will only happen if you accept it and do not voice your concerns. Their is a disturbing trend in PC games where games are released not finished and then patched all to hell afterwards. Even single player games not only MMORPGs.

I dont know how anyone can find it acceptable that companies release an unfinished game
and expect you to pay while they are still making it stable. If they are having problems now .. what were both the stress tests for ?

i agree bonkrowave, but, its WoWarcrack. even slightly watered down, people will still buy it. I did.

no problems for me so far...crosses fingers

You're blowing things out of proportion. Sure, there were some stability issues late last night, but I played for about 5 hours without much problem at all before then. Would I prefer them to have not released the game while they fix something that might affect me for 10% of my playing time? No way..

I'm not flaming you.. I'm just saying that in this case, you're wrong. I'm glad the game is up and running, and 90% of the time it's working perfectly, and I'll be glad when it's 100% of the time.

No in this case I am not wrong ... you are just content with a game that runs 90% of the time instead of the 100% of the time it should run fine. And you fail to mention anything about the missing content. FOr example ... wheater effects, battlegrounds, and balancing pvp so it is acceptable.

They had ample time to figure these things out in the two stress tests. Which you did have to pay for (fileplanet) and they did recieve money from fileplanet for beta / stress testing. I can view this in no other way other then a slap in the face.

Yea, because all games that are released work 100% of the time and that's what we should expect. Who releases patches anyways?

I disagree. The primary content of the game is in place and it runs very well other than some hiccups on launch day which can be attributed to a hundred thousand people trying to log in at once. Weather? Nice eye candy, but that isn't a game breaker. PvP balance? Have you ever seen a MMO that comes out the door balanced for PvP and PvE? That is something which is forever tweaked as people come up with new tactics. Battlegrounds are gravy, not the main meal. I am fine with playing the game now and waiting on the battlegrounds.

They have already done more testing and polishing than any other MMO in history and the game is ready for release, IMO.

Patches are always going to be part of games. But I have clearly stated that their were 2 stress tests where these things should have been figured out. And their is also the matter of missing content.

Please read and understand my posts before making asshat comments like your last one.

It does not matter if they have done more polishing then any other MMORPG ... the fact is Blizzard has always released top quality fully polished software. In this case because of pressure from Viendi they missed their mark.

Holy cow man.. some serious hatred there.. But.. you know.. like in all things, it's a product and if you feel that way, don't buy it. I'm having fun, and I'm glad it's up and running now. Weather will be cool when it's turned on, and I'm sure some other tweaks will come down the pipe to smooth thigns out. I didn't mention the missing content because I haven't noticed any missing content yet. For my start to the game yesterday, everything went great until the servers died, so I just went to bed..

So, please, feel free not to buy what they are selling... but don't you dare try and tell the rest of us not to either, which is essentially what you're doing when you rail against some missing content and state that Blizzard should not have released.
