Doom 3 on Voodoo 2 screenshots!!

Well it looks like those complainging about the game being too dark have obviously not played doom3 on the ultimate doom3 video card the voodoo 2 :p I'm surpised it runs so well, in most of those screens it looks like it's getting decent framerates. But then again it looks like crap. Makes me wish I had a voodoo2 to bust out and play with.

one of the main reasons doom3 looked so great was the lighting engine, whish has pbviously been destroyed in the transfer to the voodoo2.

if it works on a voodoo 2

i wonder how it will look on a voodoo 5

that is the coolest doom 3 thing I have seen, cept for maybe the review of the doom 3 installer. funny, to me it actually looks like doom (the doom i remember)

very very cool.

Absolutely amazing considering how old that video card is. Wasn't the lastest DirectX supported by the V2 7?

Wonder if the old PII-350 with a single Voodoo 2 could handle it? :p

wow, I think that this card is awesome, so old yet able to play this. Not the best image quality but I give it credit for atleast being playable. Sweet, 3DFX lives on ppl.

I wish that patch could run on modern cards. I wouldn't mind the lousy graphics, the higher FPS and brighter conditions more than makes up for it.

I wish I didnt sell my v2 =( that looks like the WIN for multiplayer settings :p

heh probably not, I bet the cpu was pretty up to date in those screens, as the CPU is probably handling a huge load when coupled with the old V2.

this validates my theories that doom3 is nothing but quake3-modified. quake itself is an evolutionary engine from quake2, which itself is from quake1, which is from doom, which (dare i say?) is from wolf3d? anyway it's kinda funny but very true.

It looks like Jedi Knight, the original. That's funny :p
Thats the first thing I thought of as well. Just add sabors and it would fit almost perfectly.

i really like how that looks. reminds me of classic doom..but at the same time..being nice graphicwise(kind of). heh.

No, there's definitely large leaps from one generation of engine to the next.

Doom: non-orthagonal level geometry.
Quake: All-polygon graphics
Quake 2: Hardware acceleration (yeah, GLQuake, but that was an afterthought), colored lighting
Quake 3: Hardware Transform & Lighting, CPU-side shaders
Doom3: Normal mapping, shadow volumes, and GPU-side shaders (as well as a sound engine - which doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. I mean, with the patch installed, it randomly selects from sound effects so every gunshot doesn't sound exactly the same. Pretty cool, IMO.)

Carmack reuses some sections of code, but only stuff like keyboard input. For the most part, it's rip-and-rebuild.

Am I the only one here who thinks that it looks like poo? Doom3 made me want to cry with joy when I first saw cause of the lighting engine and high polygon count. These screenies make me want to cry like if someone replaced Angelina Jolie with WIlliam Hung.
