I unlock my first set of 4 pipes and when xp gets to the logon page it freezes, any ideas on why this is? I thought it could be lack of power I have an antec 330w in an athlon xp system but enabling the first 4 and disabling the 2nd 4 causes the same problem so Ive pretty much ruled that out. my 6800 has bios 5.40.02.12.51, enabling the vertex shader is not a problem and it works fine.

I think the title of your post answers your own questions. Cheers!

330w is kinda light on the power supply. Maybe the extra pipes is causing an error to your windows startup?

of COURSE enabling them is causing A problem..... but what is causing the enabling of them to cause the freeze????? as I said I dont think the power supply is an issue cos it is a good 330 and ive run a 9800 pro at xt speeds in here before no probs.. anybody had freezes enabling pipes?

well i dont know man... but if your overclocking
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjE0 read that....they say you dont need to connect to both connectors without overclocking ,then again that is a 6800 ultra

unlocking the pipes isnt always 100% successful, it varies card to card. You may have a card where, you wont be able to unlock them.

Yes and it appears that damage to your masked pipeline may be substantial. I don't think that unlocking damaged pipes usually has a result this severe. At least in my case it didn't . Sorry.
