Does running super low-res (640?) help 3dMark05 speed?

Just wondering, I recently sold my 6800 and will be running on an FX 5600 VIVO when I could get 3dMark05. Now, obviously, that's going to suck at the default res. I'd LIKE to see something other than a slideshow, though, and running the previous 3dMarks in low res was a way to at least see the demo in a playable speed.

What about 3dMark05? Does running it 640x480 provide a pretty substantial boost? Or, are different resolutions even supported in the pay version (I know it's not in the free one)? If all I can do is run it at 1024x768 as the min and watch all of 4 or 5 frames per second, there is no way I'm going to buy this one, as there isn't any point. If I could crank it down to 640x480 or so and watch it at 20fps or more....that'd be more like it, as it looks like a cool demo to show off the rendering capability of a PC.

Note that I do NOT intend to submit this to the ORB - what would be the point if run in a non-standard res, right? I'm just curious to see what kind of FPS can be shown on the screen to 'show up' the 3d capability of a PC.

(Could anyone here run this test in 1024x768 and again in 640x480 and post the per-game FPS scores? Interested to see if it makes watching the demo tolerable!)

it should since there are 61% fewer pixels.

edit: game test 1 and 3 are shader performance limited, test 2 seems to be geometry limited. Allnighte

Ok, I just ran tests at 1024x728 and 640x480 and it does increase a bit. My score went from about 4600 to 5700 so about a 25% increase. It still looks decent at this res but I do not recomend spending 20 dollars so you can run 3dmark at a lower res, especially if you are a bit strapped for cash. There are probabbly many other free demos you could run. I would even just run the free versions of 3dmark 2k1 or 2k3 at 1024 x 768 because your card would proabably be able to handle those better.

As it happens, I already own the Pro version of '03, so 3dMark05 Pro was only $9 to me. For $9, I figured it couldn't hurt. Anyway, I'll have a 6800nu again this week to check it out. With all the stuff I sold in the FS/FT thread, I could manage a refurb 6800nu. Should be cool to see in motion!
