Why should I go X800XT?

Talk me into it. Should I go with an X800XT shipped to my door for $500? Or should I get the Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample for $434 at door? I will mostly be playing HL2 and it's mods when it comes out, and I don't care about D3 performance. DX9 is more important to me, and I can't find anything really showing DX9 improvements on NV's part.

ah what the hell? Get they x800xt!!! :D

it has that much more "wow" factor... :p

X800XT right now is the most powerful card out there (to my knowledge no game or setting can take it to it's knees yet), and no one can take that away from it. SM3 is still a question mark, but this, if anything will dethrone the xt. So as of now xt is the most powerful for your money, in 2 months who knows!

x800XT vs. 6800GT? How is there a competition? Especially if you don't care about Doom 3, like myself, get the x800XT.

And also PM me where you got it so I can get one instead of getting an x800 Pro and flashing it. :p

Who cares? Get what you want and buy it. I don't want to convince you, convince yourself.

I am looking for the pros of getting the x800 and how owners feel it compares to the GT. I don't have any experience with these cards, that's why I'm looking for info. If you don't want to add anything helpful, don't post.

The reason for my remark was because these type of threads always turn into a flamefest. It's best for you to research the pro's and cons of each card yourself. If you want experiences from X800 owners, go to rage3d.com and ask them. If you want 6800 GT experiences, go to the general vid forum here or nvnews.net

I'm not gonna lie, I have a 6800gt and I hear the gainwards are bad get an ultra instead if you want comparison to the xt but personally go with the xt.

If you want the fastest card, get the XT. If you want the best value and still a high-end card, get the 6800GT.

I've done some research but I am looking for more info. This is an expensive purchase. I haven't tried reage3d, nut I'll check it out now. People's comments and this kind of info is what I am looking for. Thanks!

Oh yeah, anybody heard any bad things about the HIS IceQ X800XT? I'm leaning towards this one since I like the vent out the case idea and would rather not void warranty (although I returned a 9800P to a store successfully after performing Arctic Cool mod. Dropped the damn thing on the floor  ) It's only $50 more than the standard XT I was considering.

i have a 6800GT and the only reason why i bought it was because when i bought this card the X800XT's were pretty hard to find and this was about $200 cheaper. but for now id say the X800XT. if i could switch i would. im not a biased fan for either company but i do enjoy using the ATI cards a bit more for some reason.

I'm going to take a stab at this and say that most X800 owners feel that their card equals or bests the GT..if they felt otherwise, they wouldn't be X800 owners. :p

ha!

unless those x800 owners have been lucky enough to have a VIVO card thus flashed into an XT PE card, then their x800 wont stand a chance against the GTs.

I know.... I've been there and done that and while the x800 is a decent card, there's no way it'll even remotely hang with a GT if it hasnt been soft modded to an XT PE.

You've answered your own question.....

How about, get an identity and make ur own mind up? Do some research and see which suits ur needs better. I'm SICK TO DEATH of these shitty posts.

If you need to be talked into buying an x800XT PE then a) you have too much money, and b)don't get it cos u really don't want it,let someone else who REALLY wants it take it....

LOL.. right on ;)

wigs: Either card you go with will surely make you happy. Like others (including yourself), if you don't care much for D3.. then the X800XT is what you want to look at. The 6800GT is a great card, but if you're not concerned with a budget, ATI man

isnt the x800xt supposed to be the competitor for the 6800 ultra?

imo you should go for 6800GT coz its cheap and it is in stock and we will be seeing quake4 from id software based on the same engine as doom most probably. These are the the last AGP high end cards as i see it then its off to PCIe.

pretty much my opinion also, besides you can overclock the 6800gt to well over the ultra speeds.

just about all the GT will do NEAR or AT Ultra speed but some of that is dependet on your PSU

............thx, Elios.......

...........hmmm???, funny; NewEgg is closed today???? can't get onto their site????

yea i think there sites down i was getting that too... DDOS maybe?

:p hehe its from all the ppl buying new systems for 3DMark05 god that things is going to be murder on my GT >.<

But but but....Quake 2's single player sucked. :( Will Q4 be better? That is the question.

I'll be brutally honest: Doom 3 sucks ass.

The game engine is a work of art. Quake IV (check out the latest PCGamer) is one of my most anticipated titles. But Doom 3 was fun to stare at but not much else, at least for me.

Far Cry is still my favorite current gen FPS. No tired scripted movements, an awesome game engine in its own right (albiet much less efficient than Carmack's work) and a better enemy AI. Plus I'm a fan of stealth gameplay (nothing beats sneaking around a dense jungle with an M4).

So don't base your video card decision on one game (being Doom 3).

I chose an X800XT PE over a 6800GT (despite HardOCP's recommendations), and I'm loving it. Far Cry is a hoot at 16x12, and I have VIVO and HDTV output right out of the box. I can still run Doom 3 fluidly at 16x12 HQ, and I'm psyched about HL2.

If you have to ask, then you cant handle a card like the XT PE. You should go with a 9600 or something...

6800Ultra Extreme vs. XTPE

Lol now if ever their was vapour ware...then the UE would be it. From what I've seen the XT PE at stock still beat the UE.

shoulda posted this in the video card section and not the ATI section cuz then mostly only ATI fans would check this and are fans of ATI...not sayin any1 is...but just my 2cents...as for the post...im thinkin same as u only i wanna play D3 too...

I owned a 6800Ultra and then bought the X800XT PE after that. Tested both and decided on keeping the X800XT PE. Doom3 ran a bit slower on the X800, but I liked the image quality better. 6800Ultra had the best brightness and contrast settings right out of the box though, but the freakin thing was power hungry. I run a 550w PSU and between my SCSI drives, water pump and fans I would get crashes once in a while. With the X800XT PE no problems at all. Both cards rock though and the GT is easily overclockable to the Ultra specs. If you have the money just get the X800, but you cant go wrong with either so it depends on taste.

6800 vs. X700XT ?

The 6800UE is a non-existant card for all intents and purposes. The same cannot be said for the PE as evidence by people like me who just ordered one and have it on the way. The 6800 U is also at the same price as a XT PE so they ARE competitors. The 6800 GT is priced lower than an X800XT but then again the XT offers VIVO functionality which the GT does not.

Speed isn't everything you know. Radeon cards just have a pretty look to them. It's like looking at a GE television vs say A mitsubishi or a Sony. Yeah it's fast they do the same thing but hey 1 looks cheap and the other doesn't. My Opinion of course.

Oh my god of course it will suck. Quake is good in multiplayer though.

heh, too bad that game is full of bugs which to my knowledge, Doom 3 isnt.
