ROFL. It's called research, and learning. If you have a problem with that, leave.

And, wayne, the computer won't be on while the robot is running, as that would potentially be very bad for the parts in the computer (I.E. harddrive, etc.). The robot is only for moving the computer from place to place.

Agreed. Show me the finished product. Or at least a work log. Talk is cheap (and easy).
 
I was about to say the same thing as delbert - shouldn't this be moved to a worklog? If it does go beyond concept, it would make an interesting read.

Blananar - good luck, but personally think you'd be better off with a <insert car of choice> with an CarPC kit and wireless ... and you could fit the mother of all foam dart launchers on the roof of one of those.

I mean...shit, I'm planning on getting the 1:9 scale rc Harrier(if they ever finish it) and modding a hella sweet mini gaming rig into it.

I got to thinking, that, maybe I should abandon the tread idea, as it will run VERY hot in the cramped space of an SFF, even with watercooling, due to the system below ::

LGA775 Mobo w/ two PCI Express Ports
LGA775 P4 4.2 GHz
2x nVidia GeForce 6600 GT's in SLI
2x WD Raptor 74GB 10K RPM HDDs
Creative Audigy 2 ZX Platinum Pro

And, why abandon the tread Idea? I will be moving to a full tower case... So, it will still be called FragMaster, except there will be no treads, just the cannon, so, it will be a cannon tower theme... Is this a good idea?

Well, I am a Junior in High School, and it will cost less than $4000. $3600 approximately, including the price for mod supplies... And, I will get that money by probably lending money from my parents and paying it off over time, with a job, or, with that job, saving up until I have $3600, and then building the PC... Good grief. Read the darn thread. I'm getting very tired of restating myself...

well qtip you can still have my support...hell your mods are awesome and you live closeish :)...any ways Blananar, have you REALLY asked your parents, adn started lookin for a job? im a young'n, and ill tell ya, i have a job, but my parents are staying out of it. when i wanna mod it comes from MY bank, if i ask my paretns they generally say something to the effect of "hell no biatch"....when you're a kid you dont exactly have the kinda budget please like qtip and other "pro" modders have. 3600$ is ALOT of money, im not sure you realize that...and you know what, when i first read this thread i thought"hmm that would be cool" then it got to "whoah this person talks alot, and does nothing"...thats fine, i talk alot, but i atleast TRY to do something...so far i've seen alot of changing of minds, and alot of excusing...either get to work or stop leading us on, i wanna see soemthing!! :)

i think he was a bit right about the planning stuff, you gotta show us something that proves you're actually doing the project... i could sign up on this forum as another user and make a buncha posts about plans of REALLY good mods and when everyones eager to see it, i dont do it... not saying thats what you do but its just goes to say what some people may do to tick us off

btw, thats qtip42 you're talking to, have you seen his work yet?, probably no... BUT when you do, you'll realize he never will need your support on his modding projects cus its soo pimp, haha... he doesnt need your support so dont act like he does... (qtip42 has my support tho, hehe)

Frig $3600 US? Jesus thats like $4300 Canadian. Thats a huge waist of money when you're still in highschool...If I had that much money in HS I'de get a car, you'de be the p-i-m-p. If you waist it on a rolling computer, u'll be the uber nerd......

I guess it all depends on what you want in life eh?

I'd harass you and give you more shit but I think you understand already :D You can call this trolling or whatever you want, you haven't been here long enough to even know what trolling is. I'm simply saying get started on this case and quit bumping it with planning, planning, planning. We've seen this over and over and nobody likes to listen to a nub tell us what he's gonna do then back out later. And i could honestly care less about you supporting any of my cases. I don't make cases for support, I make them to pay the bills... :tard:

Ok, I'm sorry, I blew up, and I gotta clean up... Qtip, I'm sorry, you ARE a good modder, with a lot of kickass mods, but please, I have a dream of doing this, and I want help, not criticism... And, everyone else, please, understand me, I love the cases that everyone does, and I just want to try it too, but lack the funds... I am getting a job, that pays $5.25 an hour at minimum (which isn't much), and I am so obsessed with the final goal in mind, that I absolutely HAVE to plan, or I will go crazy... Please hear me, out... BTW :: Is it possible to get a well paid job? Like maybe $7 an hour, or something like that, at my age?
 
I have empathy for you man, i also am poor, and in high school. It SUX but it will be over eventually. It's even worse, when your parents want you to save money that YOU made. I think you should put your focus on a tighter budget, perhaps, and maybe add the more expensive mods later on as you get more moolah.

Getting paid well at our ages... hah! You do have a sense of humor after all. If you find a job like that, tell me about it ;)

If I can give you some advice:

Try to enroll in post-secondary classes at your local Tech institute. Take whatever machinist/metal fab classes you can. For the cost of the courses, the material, tool training and skill can go a long way towards building something like what you want. When I got off active duty, I joined the guard as a machinist for the training and tool access and I go to school full time for my engineering degree. Considering that the Nat. Guard pays 100% tuition in FL and I collect my active duty GI Bill benefits, I get paid $1400 a Mo. to go to school, $250 a month for drills and it's all doing stuff that I love doing and can apply/use for my 2 favorite hobbies. Computers and cars.
Just wanted to give you something to chew on.

id say dont dream too much... yea you did blow up... but its ok, things happen

see, i used to dream a lot... but now, i focused on possible dreams, and i get good results... dont bite off more than you can swallow...

but yea, you do have our support on it but we really wanna see proof that its getting progress on it
 
I'm 16 and have a job at a resteraunt that pays $6.25 an hour starting wage. I should be soon getting a wage to at least $6.50. I don't know where you live, but around here $6 is common, so you should be able to find at least that if you try hard enough. Good luck on the job search.

Try moving to NW Washington for a job. Offer a entry level warehouse job at $9.00 an hour and get 0 applications.

Cool. Make the tread idea ur second project down the road. youll have the experience of the first one to guide you. Treads would be killer. Some way to make the computer part of the body, not just riding on top...cant think of how to do that tho.

Water cooled and the cannon can shoot water too.....just thoughts. Will the cannon have powered rotation?
 
Sorry, I can't move, I'm only 16, and living with my parents, although, there probably is a lot of opportunities where I live, in the Phoenix, Arizona area. And, also, thanks for the input though. Shooting water is not an option, as it will ruin my computer probably if I shoot the water out, and, plus, I'd have to refill the reservoir after shooting.

Also, the cannon will power rotate, actually using robotics, and I'd have the power switch for it, one of those military SPST red LED switches with a cover (red), from FrozenCPU... I have all the front bezels planned out too, drawn, and one thing, is 2 custom Rheobuses, with a black faceplate with holes larger than the space needed for the knob and labeling, with a UV red acrylic 5.25 bay underneath. Also, a 3.5 bay Compu-Nurse will be installed, as well as 2 80mm fans in a dual fan grill that takes up 2 5.25 bays. Being that this case, the CM-Stacker, has 11 fan bays, I need to be creative on how I use them all up... :D
 
im 15, i get paid 9/hr right now, at 14, i got 7.75 at begining with raise to 8/hr after 1 paycheck....i also live in oregonm where minuim wage is something like 7.05 so thats pretty kickass.... i would suggest any sports stores...if you skate board or snowboard or anything, check with them..i work for a windsurfing shop and thats how i get my dough.....try to stick away from burger kingtype places as they dont need any skill.....when you get a job requiring skillsyou get paid more :)
