Need something that has decent to good 3d gaming capability, just want to be able to play Quake 3, maybe ut 2003 other older recent games. I dont need ut2k4 or far cry or doom3 etc. Can someone hlep me out here?

Money is waiting.....
 
doubt you'll be able to find a good gaming laptop for about $550. you can get a good gaming desktop for that price but probably not a laptop. just a heads up in case you don't get alot of responses.
 
$550 will give you a laptop that is 600 MHz which is quake 3 playable but I don't know how fast FPS you can get. If your looking for that cheap of a laptop, I would go ebay. Plus not that many laptop at that price range will play those games.

$550 should get u much more than a 600mhz machine.. you should at least be able to find a 1ghz machine for that much.. check out the Inspiron 8000/8100 series on Ebay with GeForce graphics chipsets. It might go a little over $550, but they're well worth it imho. I remember buying a nice 1ghz inspiron 8000 with uxga screen and all the fixin's for $600 near the end of last year on one of these boards, so I'm sure u could find something close to that now too.
 
Yeah I sold a 1.5GHz celeron with gfgo about six months ago for $500... and it ran deus ex very well, I think you should be able to find something for $550.
