Fast 19" LCD Round-Up!

Just got my tracking number for my Sony SDM-HS94P/S. It will be here either friday or monday. Expect mini review :D

I was in the hot deals section and it looks like the vx910 is going to be 749 - $100 mir - $50 mir = $599 at office depot next week. Not bad for 19" 16ms. What to do, what to do.

Long time lurker here, finally decided to register :)

Anyway I ordered a Sony SDM-HS94P/B (should arrive next Friday) If anyone wants Ill be happy to post some inital thoughts. I currently have a Viewsonic 17" vp171b and couldnt be happier with it, but I just want something a bit bigger for Doom3.

Bought it from SonyStyle final price after rebate will be $843. Wonder if the wife will kill me?

Ya I would like to see some initial thoughts.

Does the x-brite screen make the screen glossy? I hope not. It's just like every other regular lcd panel right?

I was looking at 17 and 19in LCD monitors and I stumbled across this forumn. I'm glad I did because I was really only looking at bestbuy's inventory and I didn't know of the Sony HS94P 19in monitor yet. I looked at reviews and specs of this monitor this morning and decided it was badass. I decided to run out to circuit city this morning and I just picked one of these up. I gotta say it's a really sweet monitor. I've already been playing Doom 3 on it and I don't see any lag or ghosting at all. I'm playing at 1280x1024 with my Radeon 9800. The contrast and brightness are as bright as you could want, I actually had to turn it down from high to see everything how I like it.

Also, someone asked if the x-brite made the screen glossy. If the monitor was off, and you held it up to a light at an angle you can tell, but looking at it normally even with the overhead light on you don't notice anything.

Sonystyle.com doesn't even have the drivers for the HS94P, but windowsupdate did. I don't think the monitor drivers do anything anyway?

Snikt, please, can you do a mini review of the Sony HS94P?. I´m from Spain and here in Europe, SONY don´t provide this new model till the end of august.

Can you tell me if this display is TCO 95, TCO 99 or 03 ? I can´t find any information about this question. And here in Europe, SONY tell that the vision angles of the HS94P are 170/170, whereas Sony USA says that are 160/160. Can you find this in the specifications on the manual of your new display?

Thanks!

PS: I´m sorry for my bad level of english ;-)

What do you mean by do a mini review? I don't see viewing angle, or TCO on the specs in the manual. Sonystyle.com says the viewing angle is 160/160, so that's what I would go by I guess.

I don't see the TCO spec anywhere, what is that?

If you enter in www.sonystyle.es or other sonystyle of an european country, you can see that the viewing angle is 170/170. I don´t think that sony makes diferents displays (one for americas and other for europe and asia) but everything is possible.

The TCO is a normative about ergonomics, emissions and re-usable parts of a display, printer, ... See it at http://www.tcodevelopment.com (the default language is swedish but you can change to english in the upper menu)

With a mini review, I want to say that if you could do a short (little) review of the display giving your opinion.

Thanks again!

PS: and again sorry for my bad english :D

I just found out the TCO won't give certification for anything in a black bezel, and after reading that, I am sorta of the opinion that TCO doesn't mean sh!t to me anymore with a messed up policy. Apparantly black isn't good enough for them or something like that.

For displays with black color, the use in the production a black tint that is considered polluting environmental. Then, this displays are not TCO approved.

but.. and the silver display??? Other thing can be the form of the housing, related to ergonomics, but I don't know

I just took some pics of my HS94P that I got today. One turned off, and one with my XP background showing.

Of course the pics don't do the monitor justice.

I found another difference between american an european display. Sony USA says that the displayed colors are 16,2. Sony EU says that this number of colors are 16,77.

I am probably purchasing the Viewsonic VX910 very shortly if anyone is interested in it, I could right up a mini review. For this week only, Office Depot has it for $749, with a $100 mail in rebate, and a $50 mail in rebate. They offer free shipping, and because there are no office depot's in Ohio, no tax. This means after rebate, I will get the monitor for $599, which has to be a steal for such a cool monitor (19", 16ms response, 500:1 contrast ratio, looks awesome). The BenQ 16ms model is about $560 for me after shipping, and that has a lower contrast ratio. Also, on Viewsonic's website, a 3 year warrantee is reported, but some websites report a 1 year warrantee. I think Office Depot's said a 3 year warrantee though, so I think I'm all good.

According to the Viewsonic website: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx910/
the VX910 only has a 1 year warranty. Items purchased outside of the US have a 3 year warranty. Follow the link and look at the bottom of the page.

The 1 year warranty was the main reason I did not buy the VX910. I bought the Samsung 193P instead because it has a 3 year warranty and it came with a DVI cable and a wall mount bracket. (19", 20ms, 800:1 contrast ratio and it looks way cool hanging on the wall) :D

I have not seen any ghosting in Battlefield Vietnam, America's Army and Joint Operations.
It maybe there, but I cannot see it. :D

i have 193t about 3mths old, i think the spec is 25ms, 750:1, 250cdm2.. bit of ghosting on games. 193p wasn't out back then..

so i'm planning on buying a new panel, and im choosing between Samsung 193P, Sony HS94P/S, ViewSonic VX910 and the 20" HP L2035. which one of these would be optimal given i'm going to be playing doom3 alot.....

thanks

If price is a concern, the VX910 will be the most inexpensive (I know a place you can get it for $718 shipped, then there is a $100 rebate, although I am getting mine for $545 with BestBuy employee discount). I am getting mine this week (possibly today), so I can let you know how it does. It sure does sound and look like a nice monitor, and Viewsonic has been my favorite monitor brand for a long time.
Jason

7th Angel, I saw that. I think some of Viewsonic's carry a 3 year warrantee, and some a 1 year (including the VX910). I will purchase the 3 year extended warrantee from Best Buy when I buy mine with the employee discount for $645 (and the $100 rebate is still good for me). I have always used viewsonics and I think I still have 15" monitors from them that are still kicking away as good as new, but I do know that things do happen.

Comparing the HP L2035 to the other displays, which are 19" and cost less, is somewhat an apples vs oranges comparison. The HP is a 20" display with 16ms response and 1600x1200 resolution, but it also costs a minimum of a couple hundred more. It uses the same LG Philips panel as the Dell 2001fp and Viewsonic VP201. Some complain of screen door effect with that panel, others love it.

anyone know what accessories come in a vx910 box? DVI cable? analog cable?

Are you sure the employee discount doesn't negate the rebate? A friend of mine that works at best buy told me that it does. Rebates in general I mean and I couldn't think of a time when I worked there that I took advantage of both employee discount and a rebate so I couldn't argue it.

i went out and got the sony - hs94p/s - on the basis of a few things. first - i couldve gotten the 20" for relatively cheap, but since its technology is older (as is the samsung's) i gave the sony the initial edge. after seeing the sony and samsung side to side at circuit city it was a no brainer, the sony's screen is absolutely gorgeous. GORGEOUS. :)

need help choosing:
VX900-
3 Year Warranty
25ms
600:1
crappy speakers
$560 after rebate

or

VX910-
1 Year Warranty
16ms
500:1
$600 after rebate

having trouble choosing because i am unsure if there is any ghosting on the vx900 and the 1 year warranty on the vx910 is disapointing. I just wanna know if the ghosting, if any, on the vx900 is bad enough to take the hit of the 1 year warranty and get the vx910.

Do you think that a 1 year warranty is costing Viewsonic more than just leaving the 3 year warranty? I mean it's a pretty expensive monitor to be skimping on the warranty.

seeing the 1 year warranty makes me worry about buying it. It makes me think there not confident in there own product.

I don't think it's a confidence thing. Companies are always looking at ways to cut costs. Dells used to come with a 3 year warranty standard... recently it's become one or two years I think. You have to pay more to extend the warranty.

That 1 year warranty has really caused me to hesitate on that monitor cause if it dies after a year, I will have spent $600 for a one year monitor rental.

VGA cable and DVI cable. I will be picking mine up tomorrow.

Do you have your Viewsonic yet. I'd really like to get your opinion about this TFT. Maybe some pictures too.

I can see no reason left to buy the Viewsonic 19" 16ms (1 year warranty) monitor. It used to be the only monitor in its class with DVI... but now you have the Sony 19" 12ms (which is a beautiful monitor, and has a 3 year warranty) and soon you will have BenQ's 19" 12ms and 16ms(which will also sport DVI and a 3 year warranty.) Seeing as how the Sony is in general the same price or a bit cheaper (Circuit City runs 10% off every couple weeks), I'm not sure what the draw is for the Viewsonic...

The vx910 clocked in at 600 after rebate last week at Office depot (634 for me after taxes). 650 right now from any place that carries it, and I think the best price I've seen after rebate online is 618 w/shipping. That's much less than the Sony 12ms (800 after rebate from Circuit City). I think it's also less than the 25ms panel too.

How much does extended warranty go for on this?

Here are some photos on the Viewsonix VX910 from a UK forum. looks nice to me. I am going for it instead of the sony. He has a Samsung 193P so has some good quality TFT to compare with.

Link.

My VX910 is all set up running off of DVI on my Radeon 9700, and it sure is beautiful. I reformatted so no games are set up yet, but CS:CZ is downloading right now. It is one of the first LCDs I have been on that is bright, but it seem sot display whites correctly. So many LCD's display whites so bright it kind of offsets everything else in the picture, sometimes making things not look right, but I have to say this looks perfect. Mine did not include a DVI cable though, but my dad had an extra one. That kind of surprised me because her VX500 came with a DVI cable. Everyone that has seen the monitor is extremely impressed by it as well. If anyone wants information or anything like that, I'll gladly provide.
Jason
edit -> I will be buying the Best Buy 3 year Product Service Plan (basically an extended warrantee). The VX910 comes with a 1 year warrantee if purchased within the U.S., and I think a longer one (maybe 3) if purchased outside of the U.S. I am not sure why. I have always had excellent luck with viewsonic monitors (can't say the same for RAM, motherboards, or power supplies) with them lasting though. I still have a 15" monitor that looks perfect and its been running for over 8 years.

Trinz, #76... I didn't pay $800 from Circuit City... after rebate and taxes I payed ~$700
