I (my brother actually) was looking at the files in Farcry and found this:
<FarCryInstall>\Bin32\XRenderOGL.dll -> 1.503.232 bytes

File size
Why put a OpenGL render in the game alongside the DirectX render:
<FarCryInstall>\Bin32\XRenderD3D9.dll -> 3.272.704 bytes

Is this some oversight?
Was Farcry originally intended as both DX and OpenGL?
Will Farcry run as OpenGL

Note: This was on FarCry 1.2

Terra - Really confused?!

you can .. just have to change the renderer in one of the config files to OpenGL .. forget what file it is though ...

Ok, i never knew that, but if the render was changed to OGL, does anyone know if it is better looking or even faster for the engine?

And how do you see if your running OpenGL, not Direct X? :)
And does anyone have the SPECIFIC details to switching the render-engine? :)

Terra...

The Serious Sam engine can run in both DX and OGL as well, so it's nothing new. If it's defaulting to DX, then chances are it's going to be much faster than the OGL version.

Not Always, if i remember well CS (Half Life) had the default of DX and in OGL it was extremely faster than DX.
So, OGL in FarCry can have some surprises for us....

Unreal Tournament 200X runs both, partially so it can run in GNU/Linux as well.

the open gl version of the cry engine was first to be made, think it was started in 1999, they went to Dx because of dx's shader support is better. No with ogl 2.0 coming out it should even tables so to speak. But Far Cry's ogl engine won't have the same effects as its Dx engine.

you select renderer in the FarCry Configurator but its slower and uglier afaik

The configurator is LOCKED to DirectX!
You can't select OpenGL normally, take a look for your self? :)

Dosn't anyone have the info about how to enable OpenGL in farcry? :)

Fact or belief? :)

Terra - Who dosn't igve a jacks a*biiip*.. about other games DX vs OpenGL, just want to try FraCry OpenGL mode! :mad:

I found more:
In a folder are 3 files:
cgD3D9.dll, cgD3D9d.dll, cgGL.dll

When you disassemble sgGL.dll you find this:

"../nvparse/glh\glh_extensions.h"
"1.0"
"1.1"
"1.2"

Terra - Even more confused now :confused:

I second that, ran like smelly ass and was as pretty as an 80yr old hooker on a sunday morning....

This question would be better suited in Ubi's official Far Cry forum. IIRC, you need to have all visuals set to 'High' to enable OpenGL......though I'm not sure how C IR :p
