Quick question about XP. If I buy an OEM version of XP Pro, will it have product activation like the retail version?

All XP, other than corporate-level VLKs include activation. Are you concerned with privacy over activation? XP activation is completely anonymous and does not transmit any personally identifiable information, nor does it transmit your hardware specs to microsoft in usable form.

yes.

some people advocate finding a computer show and buying XP corporate, for which the answer is "no."

Quick clarification and I could be wrong on this one. The copy of XP that I got last time I hit a convention was a "not for resale" copy which is basically most similar to retail I believe. It does have activation. Now "buying" at a convention might be a different story, I got mine for free for attending.

actually corporate versions of XP require activation now as well. Different type of activation tho.

Umm, what are you talking about? I've never seen one and I perform corp level purchasing and deployment.

You buy Your main licences ie 5 Then you activate those 5 using one machine. I had to that. I'm in canada as well maybe its different then US. ITs realy stupid how they make you do it.

He he, your not buying a corporate license for 5 copies. The Corporate is the site license, where you get one key for the entire company, and none of the copies need any type of activation. I was lucky enough to get mine through HP for $20. However, I have seen them at computer shows, and I think it's a good deal.

You will only get one key for the site, it's not lucky, it's the norm. Unless you file for two different 5 key licenses (may even require 2 different coporation names as they may recogonize the first and give you the same key after a different order).
