Who makes these FPs?

Ive only had it for a few days. It took some getting used to for me.I went from a profesional grade 21" to the FP. At first I wasnt really happy with the way it performed while gameing , But I did a lot of video card tweaking untill I was happy . For just normal surfing the display is awsome, but in game like I said, it needed some tweaking. I paid $749.00 with free overnight shipping. It took less that 24 HRS from the time I ordered till it was delivered. That was unreal for me. All in all, Im happy with it.

I so want to pull the trigger on one of these :) Even with the overnight, the LAN party I'm going to on Sat. is pushing it... What kind of tweaking did you do there Crosshairs? What videocard also?

Yes, please let us know. I play FAR CRY and PAINKILLER and I would like to know how you can "tweak" it...

From what I've been told, Dell flat panel monitors are rebranded Samsung models. Whether or not they use AU Optronics or Hydis panels though, I'm not sure. That's someone from Dell "tech support" to inform you of...

Im using a Saphire 9800 pro. I am using "powerstrip" to maximize all my settings.I dont overclock the card ,because I never felt the need to. As far as the "tweaking" Its simply a matter of playing with your card till its right. I found that the settings I used for the CRT werent the best for the LCD. When I first plugged it in, It looked crappy, but a few changes here and there and It was looking good.
If your really looking to get one call this guy at Dell : " Dave @ 1-800-456-3355 x76636"
Thats a direct line into his office at Dell
or email him at [email protected] and he will get back toyou

The Dell 2001FP uses an LG panel.
I have one and its VERY nice. Just wait for that 25% off discount to roll around before ordering.

Ya, I've got mine up now, came in on Tuesday from Friday's overnight shipping ( :( ).

I definitely love it, I've been running dual with my 17" crt it's replacing, but honestly, I can't stand how the crt looks now with text and stuff when I drag something over. It just isn't as vibrant and bright, everything seems so dulled down. I think it could use some tweaking still with cleartype and things like that, but I don't really know what I am doing in that area, so one day I will have to play with it when time permits.

When is that? At the time of the order?

$999 is a LOT of money, if I can get it around $690 and FREE shipping then I can handle it. :(

I just set my 2001FP up about two hours ago. I ordered mine from Dave (thanks, Crosshairs!!!) and it was $810 shipped overnight, including state tax.

So far, this thing is awesome. I don't notice any blurring really at all... at least not any thats bothering me. My system isn't the fastest beast (P4 2.53, 512mb PC800, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128), but Battlefield Vietnam looks sooo good.

Its taking some getting used to... the picture looks curved inward, but thats just because I'm used to a CRT.

This monitor replaces 3x Samsung 955DF monitors that were hooked to a Matrox Parhelia for surround gaming. I'm very happy I made the switch... while I do miss my 3840x1024 display, this 1600x1200 is so darned crisp I don't think I could ever go back.

FWIW, I appear to only have one termperamental pixel... and its only noticeable because I'm a freak.

Thanks again, Crosshairs! My wife hates you!

The Dell 2001 is a BenQ product and the glass is AUO (one of BenQ's parent corporations). For what it is worth almost no FP are made in Japan any more. There is Asahi Glass, and NEC-Mitsubishi company that makes some. It is in the LCD2180 from NEC-Mitsubishi and Sanyo-Totori who is making TV LCDs. There are probably a few others but they aren't on the radar. Most LCD glass is made in Tiawan, China, Malaysia, or Korea. Even the Korean companies are moving their production over to China.

PC OEM companies like Dell and HP use whoever will give the the lowest price for a given specification. Re-branding companies like Viewsonic take whoever they can get a low price and push it out the door. Also, with companies that have no manufacturing capabilities they can use whoever whenever. What I mean by that is there can be a model say the FP2001 and this month it can be manufacturerd by BenQ and the next month it could be manufactured by LG. All that matters is that they fit a need.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Thanks, it seems that this model has been manufactured by many different companies. How's that possible? It has received TERRIFIC ratings (see MAXIMUM PC Magazine).

I would be happy to prove you wrong. Can you be more specific on which part? If you are talking about the origin of the FP2001 then have some one screw the back panel. There you will see it was made by AUO and BenQ. If you are talking about the PC OEMs and display re-branders then all I have to say is...where have you been? That is pretty common knowledge in the display industry. Beyond that I would be happy to provide further proof just let me know what part.
