For an unbalanced TRS(Tip, Ring, Sleeve)
Tip: Left
Ring: Right
Sleeve: Ground
For a balanced TRS(which is the mono 3 wire you are talknig about)
Tip: Hot
Ring: Cold
Sleeve: Ground
