low voltage 1.6 xeons on route. PSU question

Timmay! Timmay! Timmmmay!!! :) So which did you decide on? Me, I placed an order for the enermax 460. Main deciding factor was I didn't get paid nearly as much as I should have been... so instead of ordering from 3 vendors I just got the minimal stuff I needed to get started from mwave...

does dual cpu sys have to be the same cpu?

Then only 1MB of the 2MB CPU would be used. It may be best to install the smaller cached CPU in the first slot/socket, not too sure if it really makes a diff tho

low voltage 1.6 xeons on route. PSU question

the only thing with the Sparkle/Fortron is there is only ~150W combined on +5V and +3.3V, not enough for a system with some high end video cards. That was pointed out to me at 2cpu. Other than that people seem happy with the single 12V railed Sparkle 550!

I've been using a DEER for 2 years no boom?

replace that fucker now if you have another, you are just playing russian roullette At a technician job I had a couple years back, there was a school district with ton of PCs bought from them with Deer PSUs. I guess the majority were fine for nearly the first year but after that it was the...

low voltage 1.6 xeons on route. PSU question

    I believe these Enermax P-VE models only have one 12V rail: ~$90 460W "EG465P-VE FM (24P)" Output: +3.3V@35A, +5V@35A, +12V@33A +3.3V & +5V 200W Total Power 460W ~$160 550W "EG651P-VE FM (24P)" Output: +3.3V@36A, +5V@36A, +12V@36A +3.3V & +5V 200W Total Power 550W If that...

low voltage 1.6 xeons on route. PSU question

Yeah I've ran into a bunch of threads where people are having problems with their Antec 550 EPS. Not sure if I want to get one I would kinda like to get something a little bigger than the Enermax EG465P-VE FM. The next step up in the Enermax line is a huge price difference however. I've...

low voltage 1.6 xeons on route. PSU question

On paper, yes, that is enough for the 12V rail. And you need a 24-pin adapter. I have been doing alot of reading up on what other people are using with their PC-DL's, and have not seen this PSU come up. Low quality PSUs could cause a headache with P4 xeons. I certainly wouldn't skimp when...

    Xeon 800fsb 1mb cache

Find a pair of Xeon 533FSB M0 stepping, 2.4GHz or less, and you're damned near guaranteed to be able to run them at 800+FSB on a 875 based board like the Asus PC-DL. At max multiplier too, with reasonable cooling and the right components.

does dual cpu sys have to be the same cpu?

Well if you are buying procs you should try to get matching steppings. If you're building something out of spare parts ya just try whats handy, if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't.

    HELP! Xeons won't POST!

Hey how long do you wait for any feedback upon powering on? My MS440GX has absolutely the *slowest* POST I have ever seen. It's even worse with SCSI + IDE cards with their own BIOS. But it takes close to 30 seconds IIRC from the point where I turn on the power to anything appearing on the...
