Nikon D50 is well worth adding to the list.
remember to keep in mind that to get the best from a dslr you'll have to spend a fair wad of cash on some decent lenses - in some cases the kit lenses that you get are worse than some top of the line prosumer cameras
You want a better digital zoom??
Try photoshop or any of the hundreds of image manipulation programs out there.
or..
Get a camera with a decent optical zoom, and then you won't need to butcher your photographs.
The zoom on that Kodak is very good, and from the examples i've seen it should...
Not quite, try out the settings and see - but all it does is change the balance of the image to compensate for the light source so if you use a Tungsten white balance outdoors you might find the image has a blue hue to it.
If you do get a photo where the white balance has gone wrong then Adobe...
You probably want to read more about SLR cameras before you buy then, and especially find out a little about the huge variety of lenses that are available (Should be some links in the camera sticky?)
Right here's a few examples of the bad (& good side) of the Canon 18-55mm kit lens...
Technically you'll find the 350D is a better camera, but from my own experience the kit lens can be disappointing, and I really, really, really won't recommend buying a DSLR if all you plan to do is use it with it's kit lens.
Stick some decent glass on the 350D (or any Nikon for that matter)...
Personally my 350D is rock solid - it may well be made out of plastic, but nothing is loose, there's no creaks, and has a good grippy texture.
I think the "poor build quality" relating to purely the body is a myth - Though coming from a 4 year old, well-used Fuji 2800 digicam i think most...
Don't take this the wrong way, but other than the crop, I don't think the image is improved - It just looks overexposed with detail washed out.
Photoshop is a superb program, I spend a large amount of time using it at work, and have even bought my own copy as it can save a bad photo, but it's...
I spent a long time researching the 350D, D50 and D70 but personally all the test photos that I found showed both the Nikon's to be noiser than the Canon - And you get ISO100 on the Canon :D
I think would probably agree.
Since getting my 350D i have got some good photos with the kit lens, especially at 18mm which I wasn't able to get anywhere near with a P&S camera, but over christmas I used the f1.8 50mm prime and i took a few hundred photos in a whole variety of light situations...
Yeah i mate a mate who bought some of the add-on lenses for the 5100, but have to admit from the pictures i've seen they look to be a bit of a waste of money - The quality isn't all that special even before you add the lenses, and with them the purple fringing would put me off using them.
Great...
thanks!
I just was using a modest fuji 2800zoom, which when 'manualed' as much as possible, and the zoom is used right it can just about make some alright photos :)
Can't wait till I can pick up a DSLR sometime soon though ;)
