OS X is very tolerant to booting up the same drive in various hardware configurations. It's transparent and it just works. Target disk mode is a great illustration of this.
I've used target disk mode to install Snow Leopard on a 32-bit macbook with a faulty DVD drive, using a 64-bit Mac Mini...
WWDC 2012: "It's the week we've all been waiting for."
I think Apple is basically telling us that they'll reveal much of the new Mac product line at WWDC.
I've removed dependency on iTunes now for synching my iPad/iPhone.
For getting photos between devices and Aperture on my macbook pro I use Photosync. iCloud works for everything else.
I was all geared up to get a next-gen iMac or Macbook Pro this year; but now the retina iPad has spoiled me.
Retina / HiDPI is the future, and every time I look at my current MBP's screen I just see.... pixels. It may be another year or so but it's one of those things where I'll regret not...
If you want to spend less than OEM but still want a quality battery with a warranty, OWC is probably your best bet. Still a bit more expensive than the eBay batteries.
When my March 2009 MBP battery died I ordered one from eBay; then after enough reading, resetting SMC and other tricks, I...
My thoughts on Leopard:
UI changes are nice, except the transparent menu bar. Ugh.
I like the 3D Dock, but the Arstechnica review provided a way of enabling the "alternate" 2-D view.
A lot of things to like, but a couple that bug me:
The FIREWALL sucks. Big step back from Tiger...
I just downloaded it.
Fan is very quiet (still a lot quieter than other notebooks I've used) even though it runs constantly. The system is also cooler to the touch. Yay!!
Just got my macbook yesterday, was playing with iMovie HD a bit. It crashes frequently when deleting video clips. And by frequently I mean every other time I try to delete a video clip, the application just quits.
And it's not just me...
Only if you're using a dumb frame buffer (1600px times 1200px times 4 bytes per pixel) and rendering directly to the screen. And that's pretty much how it was done in the 1980's.
Now, use a backbuffer and you're at 16MB memory. That will bring you up to date with the early 90's at least...
Why? When the core 2 duo laptops come out, it might be better to wait a little bit longer for the Flash-ram based laptops.
But by the time the flash-ram based laptops come out, you might wanna wait a little bit longer for the second revision... but when the second revision comes out, it...
There's a technical note on Apple's site about it...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303848
I don't think they would do that for a single, isolated issue.
Does the same thing apply to employee purchase programs?
I get a discount (5%) on Apple and some other computer companies through my company, if I order online.
