    Let's Benchmark Our SMP Systems

Got some new D1 stepping 1.6LV Xeons, between that and a Vdimm mod to my PC-DL, I can't be happier with the results. :) this other relative computer computer performance Dhrystone 2.1...

    Argh! Duallie died

PC-DL and 1.6LV Xeons from ebay (seller: laptopcomp). You'll be looking at ~$350 for the procs and mobo, with an almost certain OC to 3.2GHz. As far as your dead K7D, the procs were probably drawing power from the 5V line - as far as I know, every MPX board draws both processors from the same...

Dual XEON System - Spend TEH money :)

NCCH-DL. It's not that the PC-DL doesn't support 800 FSB, it just doesn't support EMT64 procs (Nonoca, but I didn't spell it right). It's your money, but your crazy to not buy a pair of 1.6LV D1s from laptopcomp @ ebay for $100/pair. Buying regular Xeons is like throwing money away. I...

Is a dual-cpu board fast for single applications?

You are correct that as a rule programs don't work like that. That said, nothing is stopping them. The facilities do exist to lock a single program, or even thread, to a single processor. SMP Seesaw is a program you can use to do just that. The only thing stopping a person from utilizing the...

To those with dvd burners in their HTPC

I apologize; I guess I'm an idiot. I don't have a DVD-Recorder in my Sage box, and I evidently have confused somebody's wish feature for STV with an actual feature.

Hot or not? Dell 2001FP drops to $599!!

The extra 1/9th height is to allow for video editing toolbars. Basically, a widescreen monitor is designed (among other things) for working on 16x9 video, not so much for playing it.

To those with dvd burners in their HTPC

SageTV (A PTV program like Snapstream) has the ability to burn DVD-Video discs from recorded content. It's all automatic too, so simple my mom can work it.

    Sun SunFire 6800

Well, you've got 24 processors - so I'm assuming 24 fans. I don't know about what Sun uses, but my Intel Xeon fans are rated up to 1.25A/processor and are powered from +12V which means a total of 15W/fan * 24 fans = 360W. The processors consume 2000W, but does how much does the motherboard...

    Sun SunFire 6800

You're confusing input wattage with output wattage. If the processors are going to consume 1600 watts, assuming a normal complement of peripherials for such a powerful system might put you at 5000-6000 watts - and after the conversion factor and efficiency of that PSU you might very well be...

    Thoughts on 6x200GB RAID Array?

I highly recommend the SuperTrak SX6000. It can be had (used) for relatively reasonable prices, supports 6 drive RAID 5 and has a DIMM slot which can address 256MB of RAM which does wonders for RW performance. RAID5 is a dog without a dedicated processor. The SX6000 has a 100MHz i960.

    prescott 2.40A (uhm...) at akiba

A ha. We miscommunicated. I was referring to the Prescott 2.4A that this thread is about, not the 2.4GHz 533FSB Northwood P4.

Do you know that for sure or are you just assuming? Has anyone clocked a 2.4A to 800MHz FSB to see?

    RAM for MPX2

If I still had the shot or the board, I'd be more than happy to share. :) I can tell you from an old post I dug up that my complex CAS timings were set via wprcset at 2.0-2-2-4-7 which is basically the quickest the memory controller in the 760MPX can refresh.
