What kind of motherboard do you have? Are you plugging the headphones into the rear audio jack, or into a dedicated motherboard header for front audio ports? This actually sound like the jack may not be engaging (or does not have) a built in amp for headphones. Haven't encountered this in Linux...

I was afraid you might say that. You should probably check very carefully to make sure whatever board/chipset you have is supported by WinServ2008. I have zero experience with WinServ2008. So can't help there.

My onboard nVidia RAID experiences have never been very good. Important question to ask though, and I should have thought sooner, would be, what OS do you plan on using?
