    CrashPlan Exiting Consumer Backup Market

Yes, that's right. Crashplan had a crappy java client, but it was the only all-in-one unlimited storage offsite backup provider to support linux. But if you're a sophisticated user running Linux and talking about rolling your own ZFS offsite backup solution rather than just using syncthing like...

    CrashPlan Exiting Consumer Backup Market

I am now using Duplicati to backup to an unlimited storage Google Drive, available from G Suite for Business at $10/month. Yes they say you need 5 users for unlimited storage but they don't enforce that. Works great. If you don't want to roll your own Wirecutter recommends Backblaze (and I...

Bricked OCZ SSD, any ideas to fix it?

My friends and I all referred to them as "OCZ Poison". Terrible quality control in early non-Intel/Samsung SSDs, and OCZ was downright notorious for being the worst of the worst. OCZ was sold to Toshiba a couple years ago, so they're probably fine now.

The Daily Stormer May Lose Its Domain

You people talking about free speech are dumbasses. The first amendment means you can say whatever you want and not be prosecuted by the government. That's all. It doesn't protect you from being dropped by your ISP or for that matter being banned on a forum like this one for any reason the site...

Google Drive Will Soon Back up Any File or Folder on Your Computer

I upload to google drive at 90 megabytes/sec on my fiber connection. Your poor upload speeds aren't on google's side. Also for those concerned about google reading your files, I use rclone to transparently encrypt my data and mount the encrypted drive, rather than using the google drive...

Google Drive Will Soon Back up Any File or Folder on Your Computer

Indeed, but you actually get unlimited storage with a single user.

Google Drive Will Soon Back up Any File or Folder on Your Computer

You can get unlimited (literally unlimited) storage if you have your own domain and sign up to GSuite for Business at $10/month. I have over 8 TB in my GDrive.

Windows 10 Privacy Tweak Guide - Creators Update

    Oh. Well, true. Good point.

Windows 10 Privacy Tweak Guide - Creators Update

It doesn't address every problem with Win10, but it does hit my biggest complaint.

Did the creators update last night - ouch!

Thanks for the warning! I have a Z170X-UD5 myself. No plans on upgrading the BIOS unless something is actually broken, and no plans to enable secure boot, but still worth noting.

Perfect example of why to never go Win10

It isn't that it took 10 minutes to fix, it's that the update itself came unexpectedly, interrupted what he was doing, he couldn't opt out of it, and it broke the game he was playing. The combination of those things results in a really poor user experience.

Perfect example of why to never go Win10

Yeah, the forced updates are pretty infuriating. Problem is, aside from the privacy violations, forced updates, and forced reboots, Win10 is a great OS. "Aside from that, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

Windows 10 Privacy Tweak Guide - Creators Update

No. As I just said, Win10 enterprise and enterprise editions allow users to disable telemetry in a supported way that Microsoft won't unexpectedly break. Win10 home/pro do not. If you don't think that's a big deal, well, I disagree.

Windows 10 Privacy Tweak Guide - Creators Update

The primary difference is in telemetry, not advertising. Win10 enterprise allows you to turn it off without using a third-party program or hacking through the registry, task scheduler, and changing file permissions to deny execution. Since it's fully supported on that version, Microsoft doesn't...

Nvidia Announces Mac OS X drivers

Laptops dominate PC sales just like they do on the Apple side. You can buy a cheapo Asus Zenbook with an i5, 8GB RAM, and a SSD for like $800. It's thin and light and gets 8+ hours of battery life. Actually a really nice, completely usable little ultrabook. So you've got that cheapo Zenbook and...
