Since this is a system that I want to build once and hopefully never touch afterwards, I'm perfectly happy with older chipsets that are mature and proven. I went ahead and ordered the Corsair SF450 PSU and ASRock B450 Gaming-ITX/ac motherboard. That little motherboard even has the extra PWM fan...
Thanks for the info. The SF450 looks great. For the motherboard, what about an A520 chipset on this cheaper, non-overclocked build?
Edit: Hmm.. looks like A520 does not support the Ryzen 5 3400G CPU. Disregard.
Like the title says, I'm building a relatively low-power PC for my in-laws to replace their older, garbage pre-built. I already have a Ryzen 5 3400G new in box with factory cooler. I also have 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz CL16 DDR4 DIMMs and a 500GB Evo 860 2.5" SSD from prior builds. I'm...
Thanks for the info. To get back to the 3600MHz with 14-15-15-15-35 timings I did indeed to have to manually set the DDR voltage up to 1.50 with the 5900X, unlike with the 3600. The SOC was already bumped up. It seems odd that I'd need to push the voltage up that high to get those timings at...
The temps are about the same as with the prior CPU but I'll check those things again to be sure. I am not letting it use XMP of 4266MHz so I can keep the 1:1:1 ratios that worked fine with the 3600.Thanks!
I'm have been running this 32GB kit at 3600MHz with 14-15-15-35 timing for a couple weeks with my Ryzen 5 3600 and Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler on an MSI X570 Unify board (latest BIOS).

I got my Ryzen 9 5900X today and...
It may be able to handle the job, but it won't do it as effectively or as quietly as even a relatively cheap cooler. I have used a couple of these Hyper 212 EVO V2 coolers now and they seem really great for the price.
I just had a Newegg combo with a 5900X and memory pop up as available, so grabbed it even though I didn't need the memory. As an added bonus, the memory was then out of stock so it let me remove that from the order and place the order for just the 5900X alone! Hope it actually ships! :)
Still...
I've seen the Best Buy add to cart several times for the 5900X now and it gives me the "one more step" message that says to try again. It still isn't adding or giving any more instructions. What am I missing?
I almost bowed to the pressure of just buying a 5800X instead of continuing to try for my preferred 5900X. I wish those would go ahead and sell out again to take away this temptation. :)
My Tiger Direct order for the 5900X now shows cancelled. I talked to their support via chat today to ask about the "Pending Review" status. I was assured that they were processing orders and it would change status to processing within one to two days and would be shipped when it was available...
