    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

Interesting! Yeah, I did that on the original, though I also have BFG. I’ll see if I can figure it out.

How many buttons do you use on your mouse in games?

Right Button. Left Button. Wheel Up. Wheel Down. That's it. Not even wheel button is used. I like my controls simple and transparent, an no chance of error. (wheel down can produce occasional errors for example...) My left hand on the keys does more heavy lifting with buttons.

    Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Are you running it with RTX features? I wonder if there's more CPU overhead in this mode? RTX support isn't in Doom Eternal yet. That's one thing that springs to mind. Another is that id Software proper made Doom Eternal, and while their engine was used for Wolfenstein, Machine Games made...

    Doom Eternal

That's more or less how I feel. I actually like the game EXCEPT the weapon/ammo/saw mechanics. I don't mind the platforming bits really. I love the scale of it (like you mentioned), and all of id's usual visual touches. It's actually REALLY good in most respects. I absolutely HATE how I...

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

Not off the top of my head. I actually just went into the pak/pk files (they're just renamed ZIPs) looked for the weapon def files (named for each weapon type) and there are TONs of things you can change. Projectile velocities, mass, spread, etc. If I remember correctly, turning on the plasma...

Make sure you enable all the weapon lighting effects in the .def files. Or just use a mod.

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

Agree completely! I really do think the people that complain about darkness and monster closets must have only played the demo.

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

Nah, plausible. Used to grab stuff off of university FTPs all the time from links on IRC. (among other things) Then upload to local BBSes. :D Fun days.

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

I was disappointed that they didn't have the same scene where the pinky pushes through the pipes in the wall. :D I didn't get or try the leaked HL2 stuff. I did like the tech demo they did for their shaders though.

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

See one post above yours. :D I also had an alpha version of the original Doom game, where the map was blue, and you had a rifle with a bayonet of some type on it.

    Doom 3 - 16 Years Later: A Retrospective

Nice! (while I had bought and upgraded video cards since the ISA bus days to play games, this was the first game I bought TWO cards for :D ) Got two 6800GTs for it. I had initially bought an X800 card for it because the Alpha leaked version ran better on my 9700Pro than my Ti4600. However...

I guess if this means HL2 is dumber... :P

    Doom Eternal

Well, this may not be MY favorite Doom game, but my daughter hopped on it last night and took straight to it. I was thoroughly impressed. She doesn't really play any shooters aside from a bit of Borderlands with me from time to time. Now she wants to build a PC too. I guess this game is good...

    Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster

I also enjoyed the Mako exploration very much. It was what I always imagined the planet-landing sequences in Star Control 2 to be like (if not for the simple overhead view). I also liked the "fuzzy" physics, and getting the Mako to do odd things, or seeing how long I could stay on a fairly...

What are you nerds playing this weekend?

Definitely hard to beat The New Order. Everything came together just right for that one. The New Colossus wasn’t bad though. There were some spots that were amazingly atmospheric. Like those blown out houses maybe 1/4 to 1/3 the way in. For some reason that section stuck with me. That...
