    Dropping movies to iPad 2

I've never installed AnyDVD or DVDfab. Handbrake and VLC seem to be all I've ever needed to deCSS and rip DVDs.

    Can it be done....

I thought even Mac newbies knew how to use Google. http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=how+do+I+remove+a+parallels+virtual+machine and http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=how+do+i+remove+an+application+from+my+mac

    Macbook Pro Debacle

Also, the unit with a 2.0GHz processor is mated to a much slower Radeon 6490 with only 256mb VRAM. You need to go up to the 2.2GHz to get the 1gb Radeon 6750.

Does Jobs passing worry you about Apple's future?

I understand Steve probably had several years of concepts already in research if not in early production. So it will be some time before someone else has to predict where personal computing is going. I think Apple will continue to stay relevant as long as the company isn't gun shy about...

Refurbs? Potential future mac user questions

I also buy almost exclusively from the refurb store. Three MacBooks (2 Pro, one regular) bought from there in the last 5 years. My mom still uses my old MBP 2.2GHz C2D and my wife still uses her old MB 2GHz CD. I think I saved something like $350 on my new MBP (current model).

    FS: Macbook Pro 2010 15" $1000 shipped

Great price! If I didn't want to make a substantial upgrade from my C2D Macbook Pro, I'd definitely be on board. Note to prospective buyers -- this MBP was released on April 14 last year. So that means you can still buy Applecare for it.

    New MacBook Air power button?

I think the power button on my Powerbook 520c was located in the upper right hand corner of the keyboard. Didn't cause me any undue stress because you have to hold it in for some period of time to make the machine shut down. Same with the new MBA. Although my wife never had a backlit...

    SSD in Macbook Pro

Several sites have done performance tests comparing a drive with a newly installed OS to one with thousands of random reads and writes. As others have mentioned, much of the cleanup is done by the drive and OS X doesn't seem to require TRIM for optimum performance. Long story short, the...

    Options, options...

I also just bought my wife an MBA 13" with a 128gb drive and I'm typing this response on my MBP 2.2GHz. A little more than a month ago I replaced the HDD in this laptop with a 120gb Vertex 2 and the difference is night and day. I did it for 2 reasons -- to avoid buying myself a new MBP right...

    mac os

My advice to everyone is "Don't feed the trolls." Is it really necessary to counter the argument: "Windows is better because I think it's better"?

Would a SSD in the newest Macbook Pro give it better battery life?

I have a similar vintage MBP as Liver (2.2ghz c2d, 4gb 667mhz memory) and I just replaced my Western Digital 320gb 5400rpm drive with a 120gb OCZ Vertex2. And the performance is unbelievable. Every app opens instantly. No more beach balls or bouncy icons. Startup is very fast and wake from...

    non-functional LCD screen

Or fails the test, as the case was. New logic board for me -- should get it back in a week or so, no charge.

    non-functional LCD screen

Thanks! I called Apple support and they will repair it if the video test indicates that the video chipset has failed. This is definitely preferable to buying a new MBP right now. I'm right at three years for this laptop and I wouldn't mind getting at least one more out of it.

    non-functional LCD screen

All, I'm hoping you can help me troubleshoot my problem. I've got a 2.2GHz Macbook Pro non-unibody from 2008 with an nVidia 8600GT 128mb card. It's a 15.4" with a glossy screen. Last night, I plugged in the MBP to the wall and set it on my coffee table. Opened a few tabs (gmail...

is it easy to copy my dvds to ipad?

It's a common misconception that Handbrake won't decrypt DVDs. If you download and install VLC (which you're not ever required to use), Handbrake uses the VLC libdvdcss to decrypt the DVD. Easy peasy.
