Energy Use of Set-Top Boxes to Be Slashed, Saving Consumers $1B

I was just fooling with my DirecTV box (non-DVR) and noticed that it uses 12W regardless if it's on or off. I'd turn off the outlet when not in use if it didn't mean waiting over 5 minutes for the satellite data to populate the guide before it starts up. Shocking that there was no savings...

    Starbound available for preorder!

My largest complaint so far is the controls. The facing of the character to the arrow pointer just feels...wrong to me. I'm often swinging in the wrong direction, walking backwards, unable to use items properly all because i'm not pointing at it with a cursor that's harder to see than Keanu...

Free Wi-Fi Networks Coming to Pro Sports Arenas

I wasn't part of the installation, but i know that the channels that the access points use are staggered in such a way to maximize their efficiency. It took a few weeks to get it to an acceptable level. Certain sections of the stadium had really bad signal while others were perfect. I think AT&T...

Free Wi-Fi Networks Coming to Pro Sports Arenas

I work for Athletics at a major northeast university and we just wired up the football stadium (seats 109,000, you can figure out which one) for free wifi. AT&T paid for it all to have their name stamped on it at every turn. Fans, theoretically, get replays, stats, highlights, news, etc all in...

    Happy 18th Birthday, Windows 95!

[Exploring Copy Paste] Jennifer: "This is so ....... " <video corruption> Matthew: "That's the word Bill would use to describe the results of several hundred thousand hours of R&D." Now I'll never know what Jennifer said! Does anyone know?! The suspense is killing me!

    Remember Me

TotalBiscuit has a 35 minute playthrough of one part of one level and he really doesn't like it. Says it's way too linear, combos aren't worth the hassle, the hand-holding so bad that it shows you exactly where to go the entire game. He suggests waiting for a sale. [I haven't played it; just...

The Unofficial Hard Arcade Game and Pinball thread.

I had to go look up how to play that thing. That looks incredibly infuriating. :)

Post your Mouse and Keyboard pics

Here's my keyboard at work. It showed up as a "Please recycle this". I just couldn't do it. Note the blank key and the misplaced Windows key. Drives my coworker nuts it's so loud. It's from a "portable" Pentium III system (monitor and all) that came with a handle.

    Opera 12.02 Final Released

I've been a long-time Opera user since v7 or so. v12 is what pushed me over to Chrome. There were way too many outstanding bugs, glaring ones that interfered with the normal day-to-day experience, that I stopped using it altogether.

Have you ever not played a game because of the graphics?

I wish this thread had age attached to the responses. I bet there's a correlation.

HP's First Window 8 Tablet Will Be for Business Users

We got 3 HP Slate 2's for use in our office donated to us. We, in the IT Department of an Athletics division of a university, played with them for weeks and weeks. We even gave them to our family members to use. Coaches even. No one could find a use for it. It was slow, the interface was poor...

    The Microsoft Mustang Concept Car

Blue does not focus on the eye the same way that red does. Pure blue wavelengths, as a result, appear blurry. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/vision/rodcone.html#c3b I like looking at the blue halo around the lights, but they hurt my eyes after a while too.
