And even that low SDR brightness/contrast is probably slightly less contrast than I'd personally prefer to get for SDR media where the blooming isn't as obvious, especially compared to the gains. That's why I inquired about using hotkeys for...

Once you have adjusted "SDR content appearance" to match your SDR mode monitor brightness, the desktop and SDR apps look identical whether HDR is on or off in Windows. Switching HDR on just allows HDR aware apps to display HDR content. In HDR...

I tested some black backgrounds at 200 and 500 nits. Even at 500 nits the cursor doesn't look anything like Linus' video - it's maybe 30% of what that looks like. Long regions of white next to black have terrible blooming at 500 nits, but regular...

You can, and should, use dynamic FALD in SDR mode though which can still show bad effects like in the linus video apparently if your peak brightness is set too high in SDR mode. That's why I was asking so many questions of Monstieur regarding...

The X27 has 3 customizable profiles and assignable hotkeys where you can save your preferred brightness and other settings.

From RTings about 2019 LG OLED ... " .. 13.5 ms, but in 120hz modes at 1080p and 1440p they get 6.8ms ! Both quite low for a tv. Q9Fn 512 zone FALD VA tvs get ~11ms at 120hz modes even with optional interpolation on too, which is huge...

The G-SYNC HDR monitors have only one HDR mode - BT.2020 / PQ / 1000 nits. In SDR mode you can choose between sRGB / 2.2 gamma / custom brightness, and wide gamut (uncalibrated native gamut - not BT.2020 mapped) / 2.2 gamma / custom brightness....

So Linus was using bad desktop/app settings. I'm curious if these monitors (and the x27) have named osd settings profiles like a lot of TV's do (day, night, calibrated, dark, custom, etc) that you can change on the fly without drilling down,...

So do you think the PG35VQ 's backlight performance is the same as your X27 after watching that Linus vid?

I'm looking more toward the 43" ones since they match the other 43" screens in my array and are 4k. They might go for $1200 - $1500 too.

Considering how the FALD looks on the desktop in the linus vids I'm thinking better off that the 43" asus/acer 4k 144hz ones aren't FALD after all. Between that and the omission of hdmi 2.1 in practically all of the upcoming monitors I'm feeling...

tradeoffs for now There is hope in the following years if this dual layer using 2nd layer as a backlight ever starts to get implemented into hdmi 2.1 (VRR, 120hz 4k, low input lag) TVs or gaming monitors. It's similar in a way to how OLED...

yes for example example, according to tftcentral the pg27uq has poor ips SDR contrast ratio of ~ 1,100:1 and notably bad uniformity with the dynamic FALD turned off, but with it on gets something like 8,000:1 to over 11,000:1 contrast ratio...

I think some newspapers are 200dpi not 108.8 but they don't use subpixels/cleartype and print is not the same so its not exactly an apples to apples comparison in that facet. The point was to show that default text size in un scaled 4k...

You are certainly entitled to your own tastes and more options would be good for everyone. I'm sure you appreciate the +80 pixels on the top and bottom of the screen,.. . but it's really a negligible difference compared to 4k without scaling as...

Desktop/app real estate comparison I made quite some time ago. The 4k would be ~ 40.8" in this example.

I bought 780Ti's in January 2014 , and 1080Ti's in May 2017. Personally I skipped this whole gen and am waiting for 7nm and hdmi 2.1, and again prob later in the cycle when Ti's come out.
