I don't see the point. The iMac you have is an excellent system and you really can't beat the form factor. The monitor that's built in is better than pretty much anything else out there as well.
If the iMac is doing everything you need then why get rid of it and build a similar PC?
If it's going to be your only machine then the 15" seems like a no brainer. Beyond that I also think the high-res anti-glare display is a must. Mine doesn't have it and I wish often that I'd gotten the uprated display.
As for specs, I'd go for the higher end option if you 1) might want to...
I don't follow things closely enough to comment on the GPU, but spend the extra money on the high res screen. I usually have my MBP hooked to a Cinema Display, but when I don't I long for more screen space.
I think that's if you want it to auto boot to the thumb drive. Try holding down option while the macbook boots up w/ a thumb drive in the port containing the dmg.
You could also always just buy another copy of OSX. They are only $50 so if you need to recover the computer and nothing else...
I think you can just put the dmg on the thumbdrive and plug it in. Then as the machine (Apple) boots hold down the option key to bring up the boot menu. One choice should be your thumb drive.
I was cleaning out my tech closet and came upon some unused drives that need new homes.

The argument that you can build a similar computer via newegg to any number of Apple machines is as old as the internet itself (or so it seems).
I am willing to concede that you may pay a slight premium for Mac products, but to me it's worth it. I have a MacMini Server and love it and think it...
OP,
I'd first try setting your IP address manually as instructed in a previous post. That should do the trick as long as your are 1) within the right group of numbers and 2) don't pick an IP already in use. Pick the last 3 digits as something in the fairly high one-hundreds.
Another option...
