I don't remember if Xp can run on a fat32 partition. If it can then you don't have to partition. If it can't then you would. (you might want to anyway. FAT sux0rs) . It Shouldn't noticeably affect your performance.

I'm running 2000 pro and it's better than xp home edition. Haven't used xp pro so i wouldn't know.

Spread the guys out a little. That should fill the empty space without disrupting the flow too much.
