  1. Aluminum replied to the thread Anyone excited about nV's cloud GPU stuff.

I have very stable low latency gig fiber, still not remotely good enough for smooth or responsive gaming. Typical internet connection is 10+ times worse. High quality video is 20Gbps or more, the tech world is already taking ages just to update...

  2. Aluminum replied to the thread Looking for a budget build thats future proof. AMD or Intel?.

No brainer, Intel won't even give you a year out of a socket sometimes.

  3. Aluminum replied to the thread Looking for a long lasting HDD.

3 is 2, 2 is 1, 1 is none. If you trust one place for your data you deserve to lose it. It should be noted that good SSDs (aka tier 1 oems) are more reliable than any spinning rust, this has been proven by years of results in the datacenter world.

  4. Aluminum replied to the thread Job termination suggestion.

Intentional market segmentation and opaque obfuscation, welcome to intel SOP. It is informally(?) referred to as 1151v2. Are you ready to be more annoyed? Coffee lake actually can be made to run in some 1xx and 2xx boards with a little modding...

  5. Aluminum replied to the thread Optane and I+.

FWIW other forms of caching don't give a damn about their fakeraid lock-in to specific chipsets. Remember its not just amd, they lock out Z170 and older too. They are still ordinary nvme protocol drives and the low latency / high performance at...

  6. Aluminum replied to the thread Z390 not likely to bring 8-core CPUs?.

Wonder if they will cripple the 8086k later on with a forced microcode update (courtesy microsoft) like they did with the g3258. I'd be embarrassed or angry by now if I was an intel engineer involved with the latter.

  7. Aluminum replied to the thread Noisy Enermax LiqTech 360 - Watery Noise.

FWIW I keep both my 280s on the w_pump/cpu_opt headers on asrock x399 and make sure to set those as water pump/DC-max and not fan mode in the bios. Asrock boards at least have this level of granular control on these kind of headers. It always...

  8. Aluminum replied to the thread Public service announcement about SSDs for people with lots of external storage.

I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome my optane is. These days I only tolerate spinning rust in large arrays of networked storage. They have lots of ram and other caching mechanisms to buffer the suck.

  9. Aluminum liked Sancus's post in the thread Gsync 4k 144hz HDR monitor prices 'released'.

Regardless of the price we need a real review of the display to determine if the panels are any good, because the precedent for FALDs manufactured by AUO on monitors is extremely poor so far. And it's not like their quality on the previous M270...

FUCK THAT you can keep your shit for 3k. I can go to Costco and get a epically badass 4k 60" for way less and have HDR galore.
