  1. Aluminum replied to the thread Running into a weird issue when connecting to work VPN from home.

Split tunnel is the #1 vpn configuration problem, make sure you account for that. I would not use netgear for a real business, especially not one that has an "accounting system database" with more than a couple hundred bucks in it, or handles...

  3. Aluminum liked Dan_D's post in the thread Does Z270 mean we don't need Alpine Ridge?.

Alpine Ridge is still required for Thunderbolt 3 support on Z270.

  4. Aluminum replied to the thread Cant overclock x79 cpu and keep ram at max spec.

2400 ddr3 on quad channel is pretty rough, likely even harder on sandy-e vs ivy-e. Also keep in mind some posted overclocks are e-peen runs that are not really stable or even just total bullshit.

  5. Aluminum replied to the thread 6TB WD My Book Pro came with WRONG DRIVES?!.

  6. Aluminum replied to the thread Time for optical video cables?.

If you don't want to do any R&D and don't mind a rather substantial QSFP plug, there is already an infiniband standard that can push 200Gbps (66/64b encoding) over a beefy copper DAC for a few meters. Fiber transceivers available as well for...

  7. Aluminum replied to the thread Intel 600p nvme ssd gets a new firmware update, anyone try it?.

Still won't run the optimizer for whatever reason, but no change otherwise. They might not be samsung fast but no meaningful difference in real use performance, can get them really cheap $/GB at microcenter while being m2 form factor and nvme...

  8. Aluminum replied to the thread Does Z270 mean we don't need Alpine Ridge?.

I've got a watchlist on the asrock itx board, when I get mine I'll check the chip layout. Going by the best board shots so far, the chip right next to the port and obscured by the VRM heatpipe looks like a prime candidate to be the alpine...

  9. Aluminum replied to the thread "SATA Function" of SATA-Express port, vs what other function?.

The sata express port can be used to route x2 pci express lanes, not just to a storage device. The only reason I know this works for sure is there are some USB 3.1 front bay adapters that leverage this with controller chip. I'm surprised that...
