Steam 2023 Spring sale is here! Spring sale runs from March 16 to March 23rd 2023, 10 AM PST

Sure some are. But then Steam sometimes has the best deals. I always check gg.deals nowadays just to see:

This site is especially great if you're a hopeless game collector and link your Steam ID. If you go to look at an interesting game, it will tell you that you already have it in your library. Extremely helpful if you've collected a massive library.

You might notice that it says "DRM: Steam". This is because the site allows you to set filters to hide stores you're not interested in. It's easier for me to keep everything on Steam so I've hidden a store or three that I don't care to see in the results. I'm not naming any names but it's nice if you don't trust or like certain sites (I could remove Newegg but I remember the days when they were the best place to get PC parts and its probably my favorite time to be a PC guy all around. The nostalgia is too strong).

Yup. Use that or Isthereanydeals. No qualms with using resellers as long as it's a steam or GoG key. Will pass on EGS all the time.

Don't those sites usually just sell steam keys anyways? They tend to mark their prices down at the same time as steam sales.

they don't just mark down their prices during official Steam sales...their prices are almost always lower year-round...I'm referring to authorized resellers and not gray market key sellers like CDKeys

Sometimes. Depends on what game you're looking for. I do comparisons before I buy any title. Usually yes, a reseller is a tad lower. Maybe up to $5, but a handful of times steam has been the better sale. Any big discounts happen at the same time as steam sales. At the end of the day it's still a steam key, and if a steam sale triggers a similar price reduction on a reseller then more power to me.

Flash sales probably aren't coming back.

I miss them too, but every single Steam sale thread? Lol

I dunno why they stopped doing the thing from the first (ish?) sale where you played actual Steam games (like games for sale on Steam whether you owned it already or not, not like the mini games they have in sales now) for sale achievements + discounts on games/purchases - with the coal and all that

I've bought quite a few games, but I've also been away from gaming for a while. RDR 2, FF7 remake, Dirt 2.0 bundle and F1 2022. All for about $80...can't complain. $20 game average. Waiting to get my next gen vid card but I've already put over 5 hours in FF7. Runs way better than I thought it would on my old 290, lol.

Flash sales went away when steam was forced to offer refunds. Steam has never done a flash since they started offering refunds. As soon as a flash sale hit everyone would refund the game if they already purchased it to rebuy at the cheaper price

Refunds were part of it but not the full story as I said.

Refunds were 100% the reason flash sales + good sale prices died (it all stopped the very first sale after they started issuing refunds) but the coal/play actual games for the holiday event thing stopped well before that - I think they only did it the one sale

There were tons of complaints about flash sales before refunds hit. I'm sure they weren't the sole reason the flash sales went away.

Valve didn't care about people complaining they weren't around or up for every flash sale change - this is Valve we're talking about - Valve

Right they needed the revenue to now cover the (potential amount of) refunds

They had flash sales for years and years before and didn't care about lost revenue, up until the same year they started issuing refunds, along with games never hitting their previous lowest (non-flash) sales prices once they started issuing refunds as well

I'm just not convinced with the history + timing it's otherwise, too coincidental for me

That's all I'm saying, not that refunds had no effect :).

Eh I personally think they were the sole reason, and if Valve were never forced to issue refunds to everyone, we'd still have flash sales to this day

Thanks Aussies or Europeans, forget which one forced it

I think it was the Aussies :p.

I think it was Comixbooks responsible for most of those refunds ;) ...he returns nearly every game

Since I might be the only one in the universe that doesn't have it already, I finally grabbed No Man's Sky

Say what you will about NMS it's not Abandonware - they literally took the money and....stayed in the office for years while they tried to honor their customers
They went above and beyond. In fact, is there another dev studio that has committed so many man hours and resources to fleshing out and improving their game, many years later, for free? If so, they're as deserving of applause as Hello Games is.

But fear not maro, you aren't alone. I can think of many more ubiquitous titles than NMS. :) I feel like I'm the only one in the universe that hasn't played World of Warcraft or Witcher III, but I know I'm not alone. Varied interests and a vast abundance of games means that most of us aren't gonna hit `em all...

Oh, I know. I "tried" it for a bit, but just isn't my thing.
