Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

The addition of seasons has brought some life to D3 for me. The ability to get a class set without having to grind gives a reason to play a new character with a new build.

I quit D3 for awhile, but have been dabbling with a Necro in the latest season. It passes the time till POE Harvest ends.

Thought about loading up D2 for a bit maybe.

This game still relevant? I haven't played in probably two years. Path of Exile gets...tiresome. Running three monitors for trading, the game itself, and Path of Building following a build. Could kind of use a game that's a simpler grind while I can have a movie on or something.
Grim Dawn

also goes on sale frequently for like $5, though all the expansions are worththe price and best I’ve seen them is 20% off. Still receives updates on occasion. It’s a good balance between D3 and POE. Devs come from Titan Quest and Blizzard North.

Tried it. Played for a bit. For whatever reason, didn't stick. I go back to it now and then.

The "big 3" are still Diablo 3, Grim Dawn, and Path of Exile.

Warhammer 40k Martyr is "okayyyy" but doesn't come close to touching the three mentioned above.

- There's a ton of fantastic mods for Grim Dawn now -
Everyone should look up these two: Reign of Terror(Diablo 2 completely re-done super legit) and Dawn of Masteries.

Yea, I've played a bit of the D2 remastered bit from Grim Dawn. Maybe I'll try that again. For wahtever reason, I never really got Grim Dawn to stick. Iunno, can't explain it.

The idea of playing Diablo on a console with a controller just seems backwards to me. Would feel as natural as using a joystick or steering wheel. Maybe I'm old school. To each their own I guess.

Right? Path of Exile on a PS controller just doesn't make any sense either.

As an example, Grim Dawn has Xbox One controller support (in prep for the Xbox release, whenever that is...)

It plays surprisingly well. I had fun fiddling-around on the living room TV etc.

Is it equivalent to a KB/M? Tskkk good luck doing Shattered Realm / Crucible runs with a controller, lemme tell ya..

What ever happened to the supposed D2 remake / remaster? I heard that was on the cards months ago but *poof*, nothing heard since.

After what they did with warcraft 3 refunded, do you really want blizz farming D2 out and ruining that too? At this point I would rather boot up one of my old rigs and my CRT and pretend it is 1999 again.

So, apparentl Season 21 is about to end? SHould I even bother with doing the season?
Just a guess but I would say there is probably another month yet until Season 21 ends. They havent released the PTR build of the next season yet and when they do that usually signals the end is near for the current season.

And they stated the PTR is going to last longer than usual. There's probably a good 4-5 weeks left of the season, which is more than enough to casually complete it.

Christ this thread disappeared. My first time ever using the search function, lol.

Anyone else playing Season 24 with the Ethereals? Things are insane! I was using my Level 35 at 70 and couldn't replace it with even Ancients until I found another Ethereal. Pretty cool and also really sad that my main monk won't get this once the season is over :(

Here's one Ethereal at 27

I've never done higher than like GR110 solo on my main but I think I can do that with this despite being down 8000 dexterity

I take it these were put in for people wanting to level in higher difficulties without wasting their time. I always hated the leveling grind during the season because running Hard is so boring. It would be more fun if you could run rifts at a Torment level of difficulty without worrying too much about being splattered from the get-go. I guess it's certainly possible to do, as I've gone up to Torment IV at level 1 and did okay, but it wasn't nearly as fast gaining levels as Hard is.

do Ethereals generally roll with decent stats / powers? If it's not a case of trying fifteen different ones I'll be tempted back in...

Yeah. For the most part, they're far better than any ancient you can get (about 3x stronger), provided you get the right weapon power.

The start of the season is my favorite part. I try to play a super efficient setup, so that I waste as little time as possible.

#1 in Asia & #3 in the USA for the conquest The Thrill (GR45 no set).

My best start though, was probably Season 22:

That was about 3 hours into the season.

My main problem is finding people for the season start, mainly, because I disagree with practically every Diablo influencer about how to approach the season start. That, and people vastly exaggerate how fast they start off (Reddit is typically filled with "I leveled to 70 in 15 minutes, and was clearing T16 1 hour into the season!" Uh, no you didn't).

Playing season 24 myself. Mostly just hardcore. Did a 98 solo the other day at P800 in 1st try. Could prob go low 100s without much difficulty but DH is super squishy so I prefer playing a little safe.

The Altar of Rites is crazy. You can unlock the perk for no equipment level requirements in 10 minutes. You can then run a level 1 character with level 70 crafted equipment, which allows you to push T5-6 at level 1. Combined with the doubling of kill streak rewards you can hit level 60 in around 30 minutes without trying too hard. At level 60 you need to back the difficulty down, which slows your progress to 70, but it's still insane. I ran T2 after hitting 60.

Yeah, I was playing the season start. Didn't go too well this weekend. Was #2 on the conquests behind the Russian group. That's my goal is to have them lose every conquest, because they use bots to run bounties as well as map hacks, whereas I'm doing everything legimately.

But at one point this weekend, our team held #1 for 2 player, 3 player, and 4 player Greater Rift leaderboards at the same time.

Still, going to be a short season for me. I'm not too thrilled with it, and I feel Blizzard caters towards streamers over the community at large.

lol, what's there not to be thrilled by other than the horseshit staff of herding?

How in the hell do you find all the pages to the Tome of Set Dungeons for the Altar?

That one has me perplexed. Can't find a good answer using Google either

These drop only when wearing your classe's set items from a stone pedestal that has an open book on it in Act 1. Port to Leoric's Manor and enter, head up the right side stairs and further to the back it's there.

RoRG works for this so you only need five pieces. You have to start a new game for it to drop another page for a different set.

I was until Chiltara. I'm at 60 kills with no gibbering gemstone and well north of 200 new games just to make sure to get caverns of frost. I even tried in story mode, lol. I'm desperate

Just to "help you" and your peace, it took me probably around 8 hours of grinding over 3 days on "just" Chilltara (not any of the other items for the staff) to get the drop.

I have classically bad RNG though. Last season, I probably farmed GR2's and GR's in general for 2 weeks before I got the Cosmic Wing drop. Those are just two examples. That seems to happen to me repeatedly.

The Act 2 one in Oasis I got pretty quick once I learned the locations and how to farm it, that's the second most annoying one. The other 3 were minimal time-wise.

Thoroughly enjoying season 28.
Both last season and this season (sans those two issues with grinding for a specific drop) have been great.

Yeah my only difficulty was initially an echoing nightmare and then liquid rainbow but still, I knew they'd drop with time and I could at least do those while doing other things as well. This is day three of exclusively farming for it, so...fingers crossed.

As far as RNG goes I'm shocked at how frequently people get echoing nightmares but, on the other hand, I've barely done any GR farming and I've had multiple times more primals drop this season for me than average. It's a wild fucking ride, that RNG.

Edit:
FINALLY got the fucking gemstone after 4 days of farming it. Goddamn, man.

I got an echoing nightmare while I was still leveling, and Ramaladni's Gift has been raining from the sky for me. I'm having shit luck with all the Herding Staff materials. At this point I honestly don't know if I want to grind out the rest of the Altar passives.

So, on Americas, it took me roughly 24 hours to complete the altar (doing everything solo self found). It took me roughly 12 hours to do all the node stuff (Staff of Herding, ancient puzzle ring, etc.), and 24 hours to get the 6 primals.

Anyway, I also just wanted to unlock extra stash tabs on other regions. Guess what? Apparently all my luck went to Asia, which of course, I'm never going to play. I had an Ancient Puzzle Ring and Ramaladni's Gift before I even completed Haedrig's Gift. The Staff of Herding also came just doing the necessary bounties. You need to run roughly 4 sets of bounties, and I got all the necessary ingredients during those, along with 2 Royal Ring of Grandeurs. And I had my complete build really early too, roughly 15 minutes after I completed Haedrig's Gift.

It took me roughly 7 hours to complete the Altar as well as the Season Journey on Asia. Why couldn't this luck have been on Americas?

Staff of herding is the only one that’s annoying to get. And it’s the second to last node.

Chiltara’s drop rate hasn’t been identified but it is definitely around 1% drop rate. The up side is that Chilltara spawn rate is nearly 100% (he used to spawn maybe 25% of the time making it take even longer to farm him).

All you have to do is learn the Frost Caverns spawn locations and also know that if Icefall Caverns (or whatever it’s called) means that Frost Caverns will not spawn in that game. I usually just enter the icefall caverns and exit the game from there. I’ve found it’s actually faster than porting to town and then leaving when counting the two loading windows you’d experience from doing things that way. I also do this when leaving the game after farming Chilltara too.

The other recommended tip is actually spend the time to build a speed build. Maxroll.gg has build guides for all the solo GR stuff, but it also has sub builds for each for doing things like speeds. I have 4 builds built for my main for all the different content. The wardrobe is super handy for this. Changing gear and skills takes just two clicks.

The Manitou WD speed build is so fast that you can cross the map in just a few seconds. It’s actually faster than my Meteor Wizard speed build with infinite teleport.

Getting staff of herding is doable. But requires tons of grinding and is super annoying. If you don’t want it because hey it’s not worth it. I get it too. But heck we are only 1 week in and I’ve done all this. If you have less time to play then just chip away at it for an hour at a time or so and break it up with doing other things in game and that will help a lot. It took me weeks to get the Cosmic Wings for the same grind reasons. I thought I would never get it. But because the season was so long, I eventually did get them.

That’s insane luck. Like literally everything had to roll your way for that. I said it before, I always seem to be at the long end of RNG luck.

I heard people got wings after 150 gifts (sometimes less). I was over 1000.

Also you’re insane. Doing US was enough. I have no desire to do it again on another server.

I'm actually multitasking at this point, checking the spawns for the Staff of Herding materials while completing the conquests. I'm on node #20 out of 26 right now with 2 out of the 3 potion nodes unlocked. Been on the lookout for an Ancient Puzzle Ring to unlock that node. Nothing else on the altar is terribly difficult or tedious to unlock than node #25.

Over the past 10 or so seasons, one of the things I've been doing has been focusing on speeding up the season start. It was because I was frustrated with taking 6+ hours to 70 and found out that all the major streamers and sites were giving terrible advice. So I use alt servers to actually run tests to see if the stuff works.

And I have the run recorded on my twitch stream. Basically everything I needed just happened to drop in short order. Even gear for alternate sets were unique pieces in which I didn't need to convert. Like I said, I've never been this lucky in my life. Literally, I didn't even have enough gems at this point in the season before I had everything else I needed to finish the season and the altar.

For the Puzzle ring I just did Horadric Cube Recipe 2 and rerolled for it. I was again unlucky RNG wise for it. Normally you'd get an ancient after 6-10 rolls. For me it was over 15-18 rolls or thereabouts. Considering it was early game and I was low on mats it was very painful. However also considering I still haven't gotten a "natural" ancient Puzzle Ring drop and I've had nearly 20, it was worth it to do when I did it.

There is a guy named Raxx that created a really good 0-70 + First 4 seasonal rewards guide (to get the free 6 piece set) and he was able to show it was possible in about 2 hours and 40 minutes with nothing (aka season start). Of course that content is relatively new. I'm not sure if he also did it for previous seasons, he made that video for Season 28.

He also has another guide to do 0-70 in 15 minutes. But it requires some gold and mats as your second char (but zero paragon points or Altar Points).

My initial version (for hardcore leveling): Dec 28, 2018

I based mine off of a Korean guide (making some modifications as well as making it HC viable): Oct 28, 2017

Raxx is not even doing Cursed Chest leveling, but Temple of the Firstborn leveling, which was suggested by Francobanco: Dec 20, 2018

https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo3/comments/a7zsco/season_start_170_under_1h30m/

Temple of the Firstborn wasn't even popular despite that post. All the streamers (wudijo, Raxx, Rhykker, etc.) were still suggesting Fields of Misery.

I put up a post on reddit: May 4, 2019

https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo3Dem...17_does_include_35_db_in_the_challenge_cache/

which demonstrated leveling in Temple of the Firstborn using Lord Greenstone's, beating Halls of Agony. Then another player, kkanoee, the person credited with the Halls of Agony traps, posted a full post and run on reddit, and all of the sudden, Temple of the Firstborn becomes the premiere leveling spot.

Using Jewel Crafting recipes? Oct 24, 2022 (I had it unlisted and only pointing to it via threads on reddit and the Diablo 3 forums). For some reason, making it public changes the date). Though, this was a widely known leveling technique.

Season 27 start:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAZ_JIoOID4

I was the third player to hit 70 on Asia, 7th on Europe, and second on Americas, all of which were missed by only a few minutes

Season 26 start:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5bLDo5Y1gs

I was the first player to hit 70 on North America by over 20 minutes (excluding my teammate). I completed it at the 40 minute mark, and the 1-70 portion was roughly 35 minutes, in a real season, and not just a theoretical practice session.

Excluding this season and season 22 (due to obvious reason), fewer than 50 players have ever leveled to 70 in under an hour, and only 5 have ever leveled in under 50 minutes.

Those players are

<BOYZ>dan
<BOYZ>Frekzz
<BOYZ>Lybrix (the only player to do it more than once. He did it twice)
ekdavis24 (my teammate)
me

This season alone, I held Rank 1 at one point on SC with the DH and Necro, as well as hardcore #1 as a monk. I wasn't even pushing for leaderboard ranks, as I was just doing conquests, and this was roughly 2 hours later.

https://youtu.be/CRV8LIEUjoc?t=796

And at one point this season, our group held Rank 1 on the 2 player, 3 player, and 4 player leaderboards at the same time, all of which were sub 2 minute runs.

Sorry for this rant, but I've hit Rank 1 at one point, every season since season 15, and love being told how I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to leveling, when half the leveling tips streamers use originated from me. And I love being told about how they are their ideas. I've been in the top 25 players to hit 70 every season since Season 14. There was only one season when Raxx ever beat me, and that was when I was playing a HC Monk back in Season 20 or something like that, and I whiffed on everything, whereas he was playing an SC Necro.
