Very long story short I installed my Crucial DDR5 5200 RAM into my new ASUS X670E ROG Strix-EA motherboard. (Same as Strix-EE except for color of metal trim on motherboard.

For 2 sticks of RAM, ASUS recommends using memory slots 1 and 3, Where slot 1 is closest to the CPU.

Memory boots up system fine in slots 2 and 4, the non-recommended config. But the motherboard beeps with an error message indicating no RAM if either stick is in slot 1 or slot 3.

Is this OK? Or should I RMA this motherboard?

can you give your mobo's pic on which are slots 1 and 3?
AFAIK, the best dimm installation for 4 slots mobo area at slot A2 and B2, but will have to confirm based on you mobo's pic.

I just checked my mobo manual. You are 100% right. The recommended slots are A2 and B2. (I feel so much better now, riev90 . (y) :sneaky: Thanks a lot.)

So the fact that I get error messages with RAM in A1 and B1, is that because A2 and B2 need to be filled first?

It is the tricky part of how the bios works with XMP and memory compatibility and all that fun stuff! I had similar challenges!

Yes.
And that error on your first try installing those sticks on A1 and B1 probably has to do with Ryzen 7000's IMC or AGESA not yet optimized to run those 2 sticks on A1 / B1 slots.

riev90. Again you have taken the edge off this issue for me. And I have confidence again in both ASUS and Micron/Crucial.

And I look better to She Who Must Be Obeyed, who was asking me how long until my desktop was working again. :D

I ran Memtest 86+ overnight. 10 passes, about 1 hour each. And that is for 64 GB. Last time I ran memtest 86+ it took several hours a pass for only 32 GB on an X570 motherboard with a 3900x.
