Baldur's Gate 3, Hmm 🤔 , Wow

"In addition to revealing its new protagonist, Larian Studios also confirmed split-screen co-op and controller support while showing off the Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition and Collector's Edition.

First announced back in 2019, Baldur's Gate 3 is the follow-up to BioWare's classic RPGs from the 90s. It is being developed by Larian Studios, which previously worked on the acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin series.

Baldur's Gate 3 is slated for release on PC and PlayStation 5. Go here for everything revealed during today's stream."

Are we sure this pic isn't from a Harry Potter game?

They announced this in issue 21 of the Larian Gazette.

I was very happy to receive that. So far it’s the only preorder I have made that I haven’t regretted.

I've been waiting for a good long while.
And I'll likely wait some more to see the reviews before I buy. But I'm more confident in Larian than I am in most devs to make a nice product.

I’ve been playing the beta, it’s shaping up great. Looking forward to the launch so I can get divinity 3 after. Both such god series.

Pre orders have been able to play act 1 for over two years and they have been gradually adding classes races and all that jazz. They log the living hell out of you while you are playing though so no doing it from secure networks. I had to talk to a few people about that over covid when they were trying to play while still connected to the VPN.

I can say I have had to stop playing and uninstall it and pretend it doesn’t exist. Because I fear if I put any more hours into it when it does launch I will have bored myself of it and not find the strength to play through Act 1 again.

Checked steam I’m over 400h.

Impressive amount of hours

Impressive amount of hours
Well first I was playing solo and did what I wanted to and was about done when friend 1 asked if it was good so he pre ordered and we did it all again, which got friend 3 in so we did it all yet again. Then we parked it and they added new races and classes which got friend 4 interested so yet another set of play throughs for the different endings of act 1.

I still want to say that’s too many hours, I wonder if it counts time the launcher is running but not the game? Because that makes way more sense to me.

I'm aware of the prerelase/preorder.

The question is whether or not the rest of the game will be as good.

It was the 6th image in the "Biggest Games of 2023" div in the middle of the article, so erek had to manually pick it out. When you click on the image it literally says what game it is on the right.

Never played any Baldur's Gate games.

I did buy Fallout 1,2,3 in a gog sale last May, and spent a few months playing all 3, followed by New Vegas. My First Fallout game was Fallout 4 I played in 2015 or so, about a year after it had came out.

Is Baldurs gameplay like any of those? Or what game might it be similiar to?

NeverWinter Nights perhaps?

Been watching this for a while on steam early access. Killing me not to grab it and play but i really want to wait until its done. Except now i think it launches around diablo4 time ugh

Never played Never winter nights either. Or Morrowind or any sequels of that, Oblivion or something.

I did play Dragon Age which I really liked. And I played a totalconversion of Skyrim, and finished that. I tried Skyrim but couldn't get pulled in enough to care to keep playing it. Kinda like Rage (from iD), the npc's were just dull and lifeless. Those games you shut down at the end of the day and after a nights sleep, the thought never comes up "I need to play that to see what happens...".

Pillars of eternity is similar.

It will be similar to Fallout 1 and 2 as well as games like Divinity Original Sin 1/2.

The original Baldur's Gate games were real time overhead combat. But all Larian games are Isometric, turn-based, RPGs. Which again is in the vein of Fallout 1/2 and DoS 1/2.
Some people don't like that change. For me as a tactical RPG nerd, it's exactly what I want.

Baldur's Gate is a CRPG. Fallout 3+ and The Elder Scrolls series are first-person "western" RPGs. Dragon Age is probably closest to the type of game Baldur's Gate is as a modernizing of the CRPG genre, while the latter is closer to a classic CRPG like Divinity: Original Sin.

Fallout 2 is one of my favorite games... wish it would get remade in its entirety in a modern engine that is not the garbage elder scrolls engine.
