Heatsink/fan for Vega 56

Awhile ago I bought a used XFX Vega 56 that had been converted to be watercooled. As it was used, it didn't have the original heatsink for air cooling. No biggie as I had the pieces to utilize it.

Fast forward to now and it is just sitting around and really can't be utilized very well. I guess I want to get it so it can be used for something...not sure what, but something.

My question is, can I go on ebay and get a for parts Vega 56 to rob the heatsink/fan?

According to techpowerup, it uses board 109-D05057-00_02 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/xfx-rx-vega-56.b4867

On ebay, there is a busted red dragon. According to tech powerup, it also uses the same board. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/powercolor-red-dragon-rx-vega-56-oc.b5659

Should work, right????

I suppose you could also see if what you have is a reference design and check if there are any closed loop GPU coolers for it.

There is also the Morpheus 2. Several users in the reviews have used it on reference/frontier edition Vega 56's.

In regard to fitment of other coolers on your card, I can't comment on that.

You could simply drill into another cooler and force it to fit. As long as you're able to cool the chips and the VRMs, it doesn't really matter if the brands match. Physics rules. The issue though is making sure it actually works, and for that, you will just have to be a wizard and do things very carefully and know what you're getting yourself into. It'll be a project of some scale, I imagine.

I have looked at the morpheus and as best as I can figure for the vega, you need the vega version because of the way the pins/holes are. Annnd those are tough to find.

NewEgg link says it's Vega 56/64

Of course I can't comment on if you should even go this route. But it is at least a known-quantity that is 100% a solution.

Well, I got out my card and really inspected it and compared it to the sapphire....doesn't look quite right.

My best bet looks to be the morpheus or a busted xfx and steal the cooler off of it. There is one on ebay for $65, which is less expensive than a morpheus. I put it on my watchlist, so who knows, maybe the seller will send me an offer. Heck, the card they are selling may be fine and just have a wonky bios that is easy to fix...of course then I'd be back to where I started...just with another vega without a use.

If you're looking for the option that makes the most sense financially, you won't find it.
As you're already finding out, basically any option to get it working again is going to probably cost you more than it's worth. The only reason to do it is because you're either anti-ewaste, you'd be getting a modified cooler anyway, or you want to tinker.

I don't like things that are perfectly fine getting wasted...not that I know what I'd do with it. I have a shelf full of cards...

Maybe I should give it away or something. Not sure if anyone would even want it.....
