Building A New Gaming PC But No Idea Where To Go To Meet My Needs With The Current Insane GPU Pricing - Need Your Advice and Expertise

Good points.

I guess I still get a migraine about this entire conversation because a measly $100 will swing this dude to the right card versus all of this hand wrangling over buying last gen stuff.
What card will $100.00 more get me that is "the right card"? I'm really interested in knowing. And I cannot believe anyone is advising me to buy anything from nVidia. Have you not seen review after review trashing everything they have released after the 4090? I have bought their GPU's for years, but everything they have released in the last eighteen months has been crap (again, other than the absurdly priced 4090). Here is yet another reason that,at present, nothing but AMD GPU's make sense:

Something to keep in mind about articles like that one is that often they're written several weeks before they get published. The author was probably alluding to the current generation of GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. Which was either under an extreme NDA or simply pure speculation when that piece was originally written.
Agreed, but nothing in the market has substantially changed since then. No new miracle value GPU products have appeared under $1k.

I don't think there is one for you. You have a bias against NVIDIA so the RTX 4070 Ti is out. You prefer AMD but for whatever reason you don't want to consider the 7900 XT ($900 or $100 more) or XTX ($1000 or $200 more). The 7900 XT is even out there for around $850 if you look.

Who cares what reviews say. They are great cards. What are the complaints? Pricing. So either sit on the sideline or get out and buy something. Honestly, a used card is probably your best bet. A used 7900 XT or XTX would be a great value.

Recently I needed to buy a GPU. I set exactly $300 or less as my limit. Literally not a penny more. Well, I found a GPU that was exactly $300, and so I bought it. That's that.

Choose the exact amount of money you want to spend, down to the dollar, and then enforce it with an iron will.

300 used can get something half decent, 1080ti or better. 300 new gets you jack. The new Intel A770's are probably the best bang for the low end, but I think those are still $350+ and the drivers are still a work in progress. But the recent benches I have seen put it in 1080ti/2060 territory

Yeah, I got myself an RX 6700 XT, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got lucky with that pricing. I can't wait until next-gen Intel cards. If they play tick-tock then the tock is the only thing I'd ever consider buying. Anything that's had its issues worked out is better than something with ...issues. lol

If you read my previous comment, I pointed out that I have never previously purchased anything but nVidia cards (likely twenty or more, over the years) , so that hardly seems like a bias against them. Currently, with the poor products they have been releasing, anyone with sense would not be considering them. Even EVGA has given uo on nVidia! Not to mention that the 4070ti has proven slower in performance than 6950 XT, which is three hundred dollars less. I initially considered the 7900 XT until reviews showed that it was no faster than the previous generation 6950 XT which is, again, at least $250.00 less.

You're cherry picking data. The 6950 XT is not some uber card from the past. You have choice paralysis. You won't find any card that is perfect.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, recommendations and input. It was all appreciated. In the end, I couldn't pass up this daily special at B&H for exactly the 6950 XT version that I most wanted:

At this point in time, or even for many months to come, it seemed the only logical choice. And, with the entire 6000 series discontinued, prices, at many places, were starting to rise on the 6950 XT's as they started to run out. Note that Amazon recently raised their price from $739.00 to over $900.00 and are now sold out.
