Intel Larrabee - a prototype

You would think, but LTT is getting pretty scummy as of late.
Them effectively taking what I rightfully won originally, paying what I had won the bid for to the seller, and then claiming in the video they "paid about $40 USD for it" (it was 10 times that) is just utter bullshit.
I don't get why they'd lie. Isn't the video more interesting if they paid $15K for that thing?

I totally sympathize with you, though. I'd be upset too if they swooped in and sniped my stuff AFTER the auction ended.

Probably to make it seem like they are keeping costs low while raking in large amounts of view/ad revenue - this was back in the late 2010s.
LTT is much bigger now, so I would agree with you that the high price tag would probably work better for marketing at this point than it would have 4-5 years ago.

LTT is a business, and I get they are out to make money, but screwing people over and then making no further mention of it is beyond unethical, and it makes them no better than megacorps.
erek even reached out to them about the original Larrabee they had sniped and had since lost it - that is how much any of the history or technology meant to them.

It really isn't about the tech, history, or anything we find value in.
They got the tech, did the "review", and then tossed it aside like every other person or tool that is no longer of use to them.

Oh well, it's just a matter of time before a scandal like money laundering, theft, embezzlement, etc. gets exposed like what has happened to every other large YouTube "tech" channel.
Hope they enjoy it while it lasts, because it never does. 🪦

Say what? Who got caught doing actual crimes?

Oh, yeah, I remember that. I wasn't aware that those counted as "large." I'd never heard of them before that story broke.
Linus doesn’t care about this hardware either and conveniently lost it

Y'know, as all this "LTT exposé" stuff has been dropping I been thinking "hmm, didn't they screw someone on one of the forums I'm on out of a Larrabee prototype?"
Yep. Seems like this was like a year before I even joined but the internet remembers, the internet always remembers.

Damn shame that that prototype got "lost". I feel like someone with more expertise and professionalism could have done some interesting studies of that card.

I have a hard time believing they lost such a rare card with so few in the wild.

Trash company has always been trash.

This could have been ours, erek, but instead it went to Linus and he/LTT lost a piece of actual tech history... I just can't even with this. :banghead:
Let him burn.

Yes, erek kindly informed me and the forum of the ebay listing of it back in 2018 and I purchased it - my payment went through and everything.
Then the ebay seller got a bit sketchy, refunded me (at least this is a positive), and then sold it to Linus.

Then Linux claimed he got it for around $40 US/CAD (it would have been for about ten times this for what I originally paid), and then subsequently lost it.

They really did, erek has all of the communication and records of it.
Linus is just in for profit and ego/image, and cares zero about tech history or preservation - the whole event proves what corpo trash he is.

Makes me think someone there understand what it is and has decided to keep it for themselves. Can't believe there isn't a cataloging system with all the gear they buy and store.

I wonder why he "lost" it. Wouldn't it be easier to just say "Yeah, we still have it, but haven't made any progress toward getting it working?"

I guess unless he really did lose it, in which case, that's a dumbass thing to do.

From the vibe I get off LTT channel, and the recent revelations of negligence (like picking what they thought was a 4090 out of storage, but was actually a 3090Ti), I could see it ending up in a box in a storage room and being forgotten about. Sad, but with a company as big and (allegedly) messy as LTT it doesn't seem out of the question.

Sadly, they really did lose it.
They did legally buy it so it really is the property of LTT, but the ethics and just sheer incompetence of the whole thing is painful, especially with such a rare piece of tech history.

At least put it on a shelf in the background like GN does - aesthetics would be better than nothing.

Exactly this, and I blame the employees less than I do the management, and we all know who the management is at LTT.

Competence has to start at the top of an organization, or else any good efforts by the people "on the ground" will go to waste.

Didn't Gamers Nexus also get their hands on a Larrabee prototype too at some point? Or am I misremembering...

Agreed.
I don't think GN ever managed to get one, but if they had been sold that Larabee GPU instead of LTT then I, and many others, would have been much happier about it.

GN also wouldn't have given up on testing it after one whole try. :meh:
