Hogwarts Legacy

just restarted steam (again).....
and its redownloading the whole 70gb

Steam still says coming feb 10th, but after unpacking I was able to start it diretly from the exe.
i'll see in about 90mins.... what a fucking shitshow of a game launch.

It's unpacking, they probably unlocked it on the backend.

Yup, I just so happened to jinx it. I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it's happening. :)

I can't see how this wasn't clearly a Steam/Valve issue all told. Even Warner got involved in hunting the issue down. I'm glad they are starting to get this mess cleaned up.

You may not have to. Don't try and reinstall. You shouldn't have to.

Go for the handshake...go for "verify files" and that trick and see if that works. Hopefully it works fine for you when you get to it.

didnt have an option unfortunately. it automatically went to "downloading everything again" .
but i drew a bath, im gonna watch the latest episode of the last of us on my laptop with a scented candle on, its all good hahahhaa

The more videos I watch of this, I am amazed at the great outdoor scenery and game design, looks so cool. Flying around looks so fun, and the forests and lakes and stuff are beautiful, really makes Harry Potter universe come to life.

But then they go inside and I feel the complete opposite, game looks like crap and super dated, with the interior looking like cardboard boxes and the stiff character movements and cheesy fake looking sets.

What's it like to play?

Man my gf is already breaking my balls with this game, she's saying it's crashing with a message about being out of VRAM?

She's playing on a 1080ti

Anyone see anything about this ?

Depends on the resolution she's playing on. A 1080ti is still a great card for 1080p gaming and medium settings. But ultra maxed settings, no, anything higher res like 3440 Ultrawide and 4k forget it.

I'm gonna have a closer look but 11GB VRAM seems like a lot to saturate even at high res...

Running well and solid combat and gameplay at least here in the early goings. The "prologue tutorial" definitely helps get you off the ground to learn some of the basics as is typical of this game. Top of the line production values across the boards.

I'm sorry to see this early access mess continue and I hope that they get it fixed for everyone 100 percent ASAP.

Runs like a slideshow sometimes even with DLSS ON and RT OFF. But it!s completely unplayable with RT, 1FPS outdoors and in bigger rooms with many reflections. I mean it looks good, but no better than CP2077 and that runs just fine with RT on HIgh on my 2080Ti. Something is amiss, or if I put on my tinfoil hat: maybe they are deliberately nerfing RT performance on older GPUs to make you upgrade? Wouldn't put it past NVIDIA but the devs would have to be in on the scheme.

BTW feels like the game is trying to compensate for JK Rowling's views. The character creator pretends gender doesn't exists, you just choose faces and hairstyles all mixed up without specifying male and female. You choose to become a witch or a wizard, that basically determines whether you end up in the boys or girls dorm. So technically you can create a fully male character with a male voice and then choose to be in the girls dorm. Plus there is an openly trans character later.

I've come to expect this type of stuff in 2023 games so I'm purposely ignoring it for now, although I have to say I did like the character creator other than my confusion at the weird autotune voice slider thingy.

The game runs decently for me, 4K with a mix of high and ultra settings, RT on and DLSS quality no frame gen its been mostly smooth. I do get some weird juddering and I'm not sure what is causing it, and some texture pop-in happens once in a while and a couple of visual bugs. My biggest problem so far is with the camera control and position, its just awkward and sometimes I don't realize I'm back in control again after a cutscene.

All in all, I'm having quite a bit of fun and it seems to be worth the price and the big fuck you to the people boycotting it. I have never seen a full Harry Potter movie, nor have I read the novels but I know enough about it from reading questionable fanfictions that I can keep up with the game fairly well.

One of the artifact/bugs I've noticed, the color is way off in the mirror and theres green rings where there was an effect when the guy magics your clothes to the uniform.

You are further ahead than me obviously. I'm running a 3080ti and I am going to probably face some reality on performance tt a degree. I don't have everything set at ultra (shadows are at medium or high, stuff like this), I'm shooting for 4k 60.

Deliberate nerfing theory aside I'm hoping that my theory of new videocard drivers on or near February 10th actual release date happens at least.

I'll see soon enough.

Who gives a flipping fuck, just enjoy the game if it's your thing. If not, then fuck off. Sounds like it's not... Reading into all this woke media bullshit is rotting your brain, fucking hell.

Have about 3 hours in so far. No crashes or freezing yet, but had a very slight stutter for about 10-15 seconds in the 3 Broomsticks, but none after that. (AMD 3970, a 3090 and 64GB ram probably helps)
Settings are at 4K and Ultra. RTX was minimal also, but turned everything on for my next run to see how it goes.
As for the game, i'm enjoying it and i'll probably spend a ton of time on it in the near future. (Had to go Slytherin though :))
Would be a great MMO imho if done right.

wait for a few patches is my new mantra...very few games are worth a Day 1 risk anymore on PC...I plan on getting Atomic Heart, Returnal and Jedi: Survivor on Day 2 if everything is OK performance wise

Apparently, this game maxed at ultra settings at 4K will use 32GB RAM and 13GB VRAM.
Considering the graphics and everything going on, I would believe it.

Basically, 64GB RAM and a GPU with 16GB+ VRAM is needed to max it, not counting the frame rate itself.

Game is running beautifully for me right from the get go. 80 to 100 frames - DLSS off, all on high with a few things at ultra(foliage and population)

Games using nearly 20 gigs of ram, lol.

Very nice looking game.

Update: ooof, spoke too soon.

Once you get past the tutorial, shit does get pretty choppy at times. As well. I was running through a town and all these trees and short ranges objects kept popping in and out.

I put DLSS on, and it's running much nicer, but the pop ins is a real problem. Seems to only happen outside so far. And it's not constant.

Game is still very playable as long as you can stomach those random pop ins.

A patch or two should easily fix that.

Visually, it's a very nice looking game. One comment above mentioned the inside looks bland - eh, I think you'll see the attention to detail once you start looking at things. Pictures on the walls are lifelike and moving as in the movies, tons of gismos to mess around with (globes to desk items, statues move at random, ghost pop outs, etc), to an assortment of other things. It's pretty cool.

The wand combat almost feels identical to playing as Salas in Dragon Age: inquisition. It's not dull, but straightforward enough to do some cool combos.

Already finding good loot just by randomly looking around for chests.
Looking forward to the crafting and gear enhancement mechanics too. Looks like the depth is good enough to put a little time in as you progress.

Sound production is superb - can't stress that enough.

This may be one of the best book to movie to game adaptations ever made.

Well done so far - just needs a solid performance patch and it'll be good to go.

I just got to the sorting ceremony where the game finally ket you save. It's ok but wasn't blow away by Combat but when you get more spells it could be interesting. I think it's going to be more of a Story Driven game.

Hogwarts Legacy broke the Twitch record for most peak viewers registered by single player games with nearly 1.3 million viewers, beating Cyberpunk 2077's previous record of 1.15 million viewers...according to TwitchTracker, that translates to the fifteenth position on the all-time chart...

So worth indulging in this game?

I think so yes, its slightly different to what I normally play but it seems quite fun so far.

Definitely more story oriented, I've purposely avoided gameplay videos as I want to go in blind though. The audio and dialogue is absolutely top notch IMO so the story components are probably very good.

I cannot believe that. Did you actually put RT on? Because for me it defaulted all RT to off, and everything else to ULTRA. I know a 3080 is faster but not by 10000%. I get 1FPS and you get 100? HOW?

The only way I get playable performance if I turn all RT effects off, just leaving reflections on medium kills it all immediately. Without them it's playable but nowhere near 100fps, not even 60.
Unfortunately without RT the game also looks much worse.

I suspect it is buggy because the performance is not consistent, sometimes it runs playable even with RT, then it starts to bog, then it speeds up again. Which happens with RT off as well, just not to the same degree.

Left image is RT off, right with everything on max. Unfortunately different locations, I did not have time to mess with it more yet.

I did not start playing until around 9pm today due to work getting in the way of game time, but in terms of what its like to play?

An absolute joy. Love everything about it, the combat on videos looked repetitive but it does not feel that way in game at all. I get what you are saying about the interior lighting but it still looks good overall. I've only put in about 5 hours, but I am loving everything about this game so far.

my current system does not seem to have a problem running it

5800x cpu
4080 gpu
installed on gen 3 nvme ssd
32GB of system ram, not even high clocked ram

Most raytracing on and dlss quality mode.

I like the companion characters so far, maybe the best layed out castle/interior building of a game ever made. It feels like a sprawling castle/world. Great voice acting for the most part. I do wish these sorts of games got the visual fidelity treatment of titles like battlefront 2 and other games, this kind of game deserves top class lighting and visual effects more than some grunt racer, but it is what it is, usually rpgs are not the best looking games. But then you can do a lot more in them so I guess it tracks.

Some of the settings are wonky as hell, I had to turn on certain settings to get some of the grayed out ones to be able to turn off. I greatly dislike frame gen and it was forced on no matter what until I figured out the street fighter 34 move combo to get the damn box to not be grayed out so I could shut it off.

I'm about to go to my spare PC and give it a shot on the 5600X/6900XT and see how it runs. I also have a 3070ti so I may try that too and see if there is some performance bug on the 3000 series.

Who gives a flipping fuck,
Everybody should who cares about not living in a clown world where observable reality is blasphemy and feelings are fact.

I always have to laugh at people whose immediate reaction to criticism is that you must hate it all then. Heck, I wasn't even critical, I just stated things as they are without comment outside of one shocked face smiley. It doesn't affect the meat of the game yet. I'm sorry you can't stomach even mild criticism without blowing a gasket, so here is a trigger warning for you: I'm staying and will probably have more things to criticize about the game before the day is over.
Reading into all this woke media bullshit is rotting your brain, fucking hell.
The more you ignore it the harder they push it, we tried to take it as no big deal, gave an inch, now they demand a mile, if we give a mile, they'll want it to go all the way to the moon. My position is now that we shouldn't even have given an inch. Today it is just a gender fluid character creator tomorrow you get -25% HP if you try to create a cis character. And get reported to the thought police if you refuse to be 'friendly' with the trans character in game.
Sincerely, a very hardline conservative. (but not an echo chamber retard cuck)
You could've fooled me, you sound ready to give in without a fight.

So I just checked it on my spare rig, and the game runs better on the AMD stuff than my 12700k/4090. I am now seeing why the AMD specs are lower across the board, 1440p all ultra settings with no FSR, no RT on my 6900XT and it gets like 180fps. NO texture pop at all, seems to be an Nvidia thing.

Damn well that’s disappointing. There’s still no driver update for the game yet though right? Will probably be sorted with a driver or an early patch I’m guessing.

I would estimate that a day 1 driver should appear on friday for the actual launch of the game. With RT off, my 6900XT absolutely crushes my 4090. Its like 175fps in Hogsmeade vs 80. I would be interested in the fps numbers of anyone with an RX 7000 series card.

Wow that’s insane. Hopefully we get similar performance with the day one driver. I’m hoping to get 60fps with my 3080 at 4K on my main rig, though I’m taking delivery today of a laptop with a 4080 so hoping for closer to 120fps at 1440 on that.
