4TB teamgroup nvme $259

After some digging this is a Phison E12 drive with DRAM and TLC nand. The E12 controller was very competitive when it came out. The original Sabrent Rocket also was an E12 drive. I paid almost this much for my 2TB Pioneer branded E12 drive two years ago now.

Welp, I *was* going to spend $240 on a Crucial mx500, but after thinking about this one for an hour I swiped right. This will be my new steam/Xbox game drive. Should fit what? Like 3 games?

For 4TB is really tempting. You can get a third party heatsink later in case you need in your MB

Pulled the trigger. If my shiny new Dell G15 5520 had two SSD sockets, I'd have doubled up.

Edit: Also bought a 2x32GB DDR5 SODIMM 4800 set. Official specs say the Dell G15 2022 5520 Intel will only take 32GB. I call bullshit and I'm willing to bet my time and money on it. It's literally one more trace on the circuit board to add that 32/64 mode. 64GB or bust.

Heh. 1/4 the cumulative RAM of Dashcat2... in a laptop. We live in exciting times.

Yep! It's correct.
Good, because I pulled the trigger like I promised.

I feel weird right now. I really haven't had the kind of time/cash gap available to me to take chances on important tech issues that have an effect on people from my class/roots. I may have discovered my purpose.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced four tb nvme drive that I can stick in a laptop that won't throttle in confined spaces.

Damn, saw this too late. Placed an order for one, but I have a feeling they're oos since the quantity available was only 1 remaining when I placed the order.

$10 cheaper Crucial P3, and for $299 there is an entry level Gen 4 drive from Crucial too (5000/4200)

That drive doesn't have dram on it. I brought the P3 plus thinking it did to use as a system. Drive but it is is horrible. I was getting constant hitches on the desktop and would total freeze my system if I hit it too hard. Replaced it with the SN850x and everything was nice a smooth.

There were still 23 available when I placed an order 15 hours ago

Showed 1 available when I ordered just now. Still shows 1 available afterwards... which makes me think the chances of my order getting fulfilled is a crapshoot 😂

I bought the regular P3 512 GB, not the P3 Plus, as a system drive for a media server I built for my son. For normal use it's fine but if you do any sort of intense writes the drive slows down to a crawl. I mean that the sequential writes become much worse than even a modern spinner once it runs out of cache and it does that really fast. If memory serves once it ran out of cache it was doing about 60MB/sec on large file writes. I have an old 2.5" laptop 5400RPM 2TB drive which has faster large file sequential writes at 80MB/sec. I don't remember any problems with reads from the P3 but the writes were abysmal.

Larger capacity versions of the P3 might not have the same issues or at least you might not run into them as soon. The only experience I have is with the 512GB version.

Huh... interesting. I got a shipping notice from Amazon saying it will be here monday. That's unusual since they usually sit on my orders for a week+ and then ship with UPS Blue. Either way, still 1+ weeks for Prime shipping is shit, which has been the norm for the last six months for me.

2/3 weeks now and the price has jumped to $313. Still not bad but now the Crucial qlc/dramless is down to $250. If there is no thread for it, I'll create one.

Got my drive today. Firmware is:UHFM00.2

What kind of controller is it? The modules are TEAMGROUP branded, "Made in Taiwan"

Interesting, the price shows up as $704 for me.

Sorry, my bad, it's not even USD it is in GBP as it redirects me to the uk amazon page. Which would make it about $870.
Almost as bad as GPU prices in Europe, almost.

Reddit ssdbot says it's a phison e12s with koixia tlc nand.

Mine came in today.

Fresh out of the box, motherboard is an Asus Crosshair VIII Hero with an AMD 3900x at stock. It's as fast as my Sabarent Rocket 1TB NVMe which is my boot drive that I bought when I put this system together a couple years ago. For a Steam drive, I'm not going to complain.

For a main drive I wouldn't complain. Only thing yet to be seen is whether or not it will slow down noticeably or not.

I bought this drive for the Dell G15 I ordered. I'm returning that machine because I don't like the display and decided to wait for the RTX 40-series GPU machines.

In the meantime, I stumbled upon a dirt-cheap Lenovo Ideapad 3i at Walmart that actually turned out to be better than my geriatric MY2014 ThinkPad W540 I bought 3 years ago, including the integrated graphics being faster than the Quadro K2100M. Shocking. And it sips the battery when not doing anything drastic. Stock RAM was 4GB DDR4 3200MHz, while stock storage was a puny 128GB NVMe SSD that tops out at like 1.2GB/s. I already bought a 16GB SODIMM for the open RAM socket on the motherboard. I'm figuring out how to clone the SSD to this Teamgroup unit. The idea of that much storage in a machine that cost less than the SSD inside it is hilarious. This is going to be fun!
